GOOD AFTERNOON. THE TIME IS 4:01 AND THIS MEETING IS CALLED TO ORDER.

[1. CALL TO ORDER]

IF WE COULD ALL PLEASE STAND FOR THE PLEDGE.

MR. RIEBE? READY. BEGIN.

ALLEGIANCE].

THANK YOU, MR. RIEBE. GOOD AFTERNOON.

SO NICE TO SEE EVERYBODY.

HAVE YOU NOTICED WE HAVE LOWER MONITORS, AND NOW I CAN SEE EVERYBODY.

AND YOU CAN SEE ME. VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS.

BEFORE WE MOVE TO ITEM 2.2, I'D LIKE TO SPEAK ON A PROCEDURAL ITEM.

THIS WEEK I WATCHED THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING, AND I NOTICED THAT, WHEN SOMEONE IN THE PUBLIC HAS ITEMS TO GIVE TO A COUNCIL MEMBER, THEY ENDED UP PASSING IT TO THE CITY CLERK FOR DISTRIBUTION.

AND I REALLY APPRECIATED THE EFFICIENCY AND THE SAFETY OF THIS PROCEDURE.

AND SO I ASK THAT IF ANYONE IN THE PUBLIC HAS ANYTHING FOR ANY OR ALL OF THE TRUSTEES DURING THE MEETING, IF YOU WOULD PLEASE HAND THOSE TO MISS MCELLIGOTT, SHE WILL DISTRIBUTE THEM AS APPROPRIATE, TO THE TRUSTEES.

AND PLEASE DO NOT APPROACH THE DAIS AT ANY POINT DURING THE MEETING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

OKAY, MOVING ON TO ITEM 2.2, APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA.

[2.2 Approval of the Agenda: Any changes to the agenda must be made at this time]

ARE THERE ANY CHANGES TO THE AGENDA TO BE MADE AT THIS TIME? DO I HAVE A MOTION TO ADOPT THE AGENDA? SO MOVED.

ANY SECOND? SECOND. CALL FOR THE VOTE, PLEASE.

ALL RIGHT, MOTION PASSES.

[2.3 Board Recognition: Congratulating Retiring Staff Members: Davin Heaphy, Bill Lemei, and Ben Bernardy]

MOVING ON TO ITEM 2.3 BOARD RECOGNITION SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

THANK YOU, PRESIDENT PALACIOS-PETERS.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, DO WE HAVE BEN BERNARDY? DID MR. BERNARDY HAVE A CHANCE TO MAKE IT HERE? MR. BERNARDY HAS ANNOUNCED HIS MID-YEAR RETIREMENT.

MR. BERNARDY WAS A CRITICAL MEMBER OF OUR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS TEAM.

ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE.

REALLY WANTED TO ENSURE THAT OUR STUDENTS HAD A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT, BUT ALSO WAS A JACK OF ALL TRADES.

SO WHEN MR. BERNARDY JOINED OUR TEAM, HE COULD ACCOMPLISH SOME ELECTRICIAN WORK, SOME PLUMBING WORK.

WE WILL MISS HIM IN OUR COMMUNITY BUT CONGRATULATE HIM ON HIS RETIREMENT.

ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR MR. BEN BERNARDY. OKAY, THE NEXT TWO ARE GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFICULT FOR ME, AND I'M GOING TO ATTEMPT TO KEEP THESE BRIEF.

I'LL JUST ASK FOR MR. HEAPHY AND MR. LEMEI TO PLEASE, WHATEVER YOU'RE COMFORTABLE WITH, EITHER COME STAND AT THE PODIUM OR JUST STAND.

I'M JUST GOING TO READ A FEW REMARKS ABOUT EACH OF YOU, STARTING WITH MR. HEAPHY. DAVID HEAPHY.

MR. HEAPHY STARTED TEACHING IN CORONADO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT IN AUGUST OF 1995.

HE HAS SOME OF THE MOST ENGAGING CLASSROOM LESSONS I'VE EVER HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF OBSERVING.

HE'S WISE.

HE'S COMPASSIONATE.

HE'S SPIRITED.

HE'S INCREDIBLY HUMBLE.

I'M SURE HE HATES THIS.

HE'S ALSO INCREDIBLY COURAGEOUS AND WILLING TO SHARE HIS LIFE STORY AND HIS LIFE EXPERIENCES WITH OUR STUDENTS TO HELP SHAPE THEM.

A FEW EXAMPLES COME TO MIND.

WE HELD A MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS ASSEMBLY, AND MR. HEAPHY VERY BRAVELY AND COURAGEOUSLY SPOKE TO OUR STUDENTS.

AND THEN ONE YEAR AT A NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY EVENT.

MR. HEAPHY PRESENTED ON THE BUZZ TERM AT THE TIME WAS YOLO.

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE AND IT RESONATED WITH THE STUDENTS.

YOLO, YOLO AND MR. HEAPHY QUICKLY TURNED THAT PHRASE, YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE INTO CHALLENGING OUR STUDENTS TO THINK ABOUT YOLO ME OR YOLO WE.

ARE YOU LIVING ONLY ONCE FOR YOURSELF OR ARE YOU LIVING ONLY ONCE? TO MAKE THE COMMUNITY, TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

THAT'S HOW DAVE HAS LED IN HIS CLASSROOM.

THAT'S HOW HE'S MENTORED YOUNG TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ALIKE.

HE'S GOING TO BE SORELY MISSED IN THIS COMMUNITY FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE IN THE CLASSROOM AND OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM.

THANK YOU, MR. HEAPHY.

CONGRATULATIONS.

[00:05:09]

[INAUDIBLE].

SO I JUST WANTED TO SAY, FROM THE DEEPEST CHASMS OF MY BEING, I WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE.

FIRST AS A PRINCIPAL AND THEN AS A SUPERINTENDENT, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, FOR BEING SUCH A DEAR AND TRUSTED FRIEND.

BOARD, I WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO SERVE THE STUDENTS OF THIS COMMUNITY FOR 29 YEARS.

I COULD NOT HAVE DREAMT OR SCRIPTED OR CRYSTAL BALL.

GREATER CAREER FOR MYSELF [INAUDIBLE].

SO I FEEL LIKE INSANELY BLESSED AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT, BUT [INAUDIBLE] SO THANK YOU.

THANK YOU, MR. HEAPHY.

MR. BELLAMY.

MR. LEMEI STARTED TEACHING IN CORONADO UNIFIED IN AUGUST OF 2000.

AFFECTIONATELY REFERRED TO BY STAFF AND STUDENTS AS GANDALF.

MR. LEMEI MODELS GRATITUDE AND RESPONSIBILITY, BEING THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE AND TAKING THAT AS A CHARGE TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND TO GIVE BACK.

I HAVE A NUMBER OF STORIES ABOUT MR. LEMEI. WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND WISDOM.

HE FORCES EVERYONE AROUND HIM TO THINK CRITICALLY, WHETHER IT'S ABOUT CONTENT IN HIS CLASSROOM OR HUMANITY OR LIFE IN GENERAL.

BILL LEMEI MAKES INDIVIDUALS, STUDENTS AND ADULTS ALIKE BETTER HUMAN BEINGS BY BEING IN HIS PRESENCE.

THERE WAS A PTO MEETING A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO, PROBABLY 12, AND THE PARENTS ASKED MR. LEMEI TO SPEAK ABOUT CONTENT IN HIS CLASSROOM.

IT WAS A FASCINATING, 15 MINUTE PRESENTATION TO PARENTS, BUT IT QUICKLY TURNED INTO TIPS AND TRICKS ABOUT CHECK ON YOUR CHILD TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE HAPPY.

CHECK ON YOUR CHILD TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY FEEL CONFIDENT AND COMFORTABLE IN WHO THEY ARE AS INDIVIDUALS.

DON'T PUSH THE GRADE POINT AVERAGE.

YOU COULD HAVE HEARD A PIN DROP IN THAT ROOM.

MR. LEMEI FINDS HIS LIFE EXPERIENCES AS OPPORTUNITIES TO TEACH LESSONS ABOUT LIFE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM, AND WE WILL MISS HIM DEARLY IN CORONADO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT.

CONGRATULATIONS, MR. LEMEI.

I WILL MISS, THIS THE SCHOOL DRAMA.

I WILL MISS IT VERY DEEPLY.

AT THIS MOMENT, I'M WONDERING IF THIS WAS REALLY A GOOD MOVE OR NOT.

BUT, AS WAS SAID EARLIER, I WAS SURPRISED I STARTED TEACHING WITH THE IDEA, OH, I'LL DO THIS FOR FIVE YEARS, YOU KNOW, AND JUST I DID NOT SEE A DECADES LONG CAREER COMING, BUT I REALLY LUCKED OUT.

THE EVERY DAY I AM, INSPIRED AND EXCITED BY MY STUDENTS.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THE PEOPLE I TEACH WITH.

[INAUDIBLE] IT'S A I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY.

THE BEST I CAN DO WHEN PEOPLE ASK ME IS TO SAY IT'S LIKE, A PRIVATE SCHOOL AND A PUBLIC SCHOOL PRICE, WITH THE MOST AMAZING TEACHERS ON THE STAFF THAT I CAN IMAGINE.

JUST. MUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING RIGHT TO HAVE ENDED UP HERE.

[00:10:03]

THANK YOU ALL. THANK YOU.

SO BOTH MR. LEMEI AND MR. HEAPHY WILL LEAVE A HUGE HOLE AT 650 D AVENUE.

BELOVED, AMAZING EDUCATORS WHO INSPIRE LIFELONG LEARNING CHALLENGE OTHERS TO BE THEIR BEST HUMAN SELF.

THERE ARE TWO FACES ON THE MOUNT RUSHMORE OF CORONADO HIGH SCHOOL.

THAT WE'RE GOING TO MISS DEARLY.

AND THEIR IMPACT ON THAT SCHOOL, THIS COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD CANNOT BE OVERSTATED.

WE CAN'T DO ENOUGH TO THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR TIME AND YOUR SERVICE AND WHAT YOU'VE PROVIDED TO THE YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE IN YOUR CARE.

SO ON BEHALF OF THE GOVERNING BOARD OF OUR COLLEAGUES OF THE STAFF, CURRENT PAST STUDENTS, THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH.

[INAUDIBLE] . YEAH, BUT THERE MAY BE A LITTLE CONFUSION.

WE HAD THREE MID-YEAR RETIREES AND RATHER RISK INVITING THEM BACK IN JUNE TO CELEBRATE THEM.

WE FELT IT WAS CRITICAL TO HONOR THEM HERE THIS EVENING.

THANK YOU FOR INDULGING US.

WELL WORTH THE TIME.

I HOPE EVERYONE APPRECIATED THAT.

AND JUST AMAZING, AMAZING HUMAN BEINGS.

WE'RE SO FORTUNATE TO HAVE IN OUR COMMUNITY.

THAT BEING SAID, WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE ON WITH OUR MEETING.

AS WE HAVE BREAKS AND TRANSITIONS BETWEEN AGENDA ITEMS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO HAVE A COOKIE FOR MR. LEMEI AND MR. HEAPHY.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

[2.4 Board Recognition: Students John and Grace Elardo]

MOVING ON TO ITEM 2.4, BOARD RECOGNITION STUDENTS JOHN AND GRACE ELARDO.

SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

THANK YOU. I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE, HERE'S THE CYCLE.

RIGHT. FIRST, WE HONOR OUR RETIREES, AND NOW WE'RE WE GET TO HONOR TWO SPECIAL STUDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

I'M GOING TO ASK, MICHELLE GILMORE, THE DIRECTOR OF THE CORONADO SCHOOLS FOUNDATION, TO SAY A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE ELARDO'S.

[INAUDIBLE] THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME THERE.

HERE TODAY. I'M MICHELE GILMORE, THE CEO AND PRESIDENT OF THE CORONADO SCHOOLS FOUNDATION, AND I AM HONORED TO HONOR SOMEONE, TWO PEOPLE, IN ADDITION TO THE TWO ROCK STAR TEACHERS THAT WE JUST SALUTED.

NOW WE GET TO SALUTE TO ROCK STAR STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN BUSY.

NOT JUST THIS YEAR, NOT JUST LAST YEAR, BUT SINCE 2017, DONATING AND THEIR TIME, EFFORTS AND MONEY RAISED SOLELY TO THE CORONADO SCHOOLS FOUNDATION.

[00:15:06]

FIRST OF ALL, I DIDN'T EVEN RECOGNIZE JACK WHEN HE WALKED IN.

AS YOU CAN SEE, HE'S GROWN A LITTLE SINCE LAST.

EVEN LAST YEAR.

THE TWO BARELY HAD TIME TO ATTEND THE MEETING TODAY BECAUSE OF THEIR BUSY SCHEDULES.

WATER POLO PLAYERS AND THE LIKE LACROSSE, TENNIS.

THEY PRETTY MUCH DO IT ALL.

BUT IN ADDITION, THEY FIND TIME TO VOLUNTEER.

AND THEN THIS YEAR, 2023, JUST THIS LAST YEAR, THEY RAISED $1,380 JUST FROM THE YARD CARD SIGNS, WHICH ALL OF US KNOW ABOUT. THEY RAISED $859 FROM THE CORONADO SHORES WATER PARK SALES.

A POP UP STAND THAT THEY MANNED SOLELY THEMSELVES.

CORONADO TALENT SNACK BAR $427.

AND GET THIS ARTISANS ALLEY SELLING THE REINDEERS THAT THEY TIRELESSLY MAKE BY HAND.

THEY RAISED $4,940.

THE REASON WHY I THOUGHT THAT WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THEM, THOUGH, IS NOT THAT NOT JUST THIS YEAR, BUT YEAR OVER YEAR, WITH ALL THEIR BUSY SCHEDULES AND SENIOR YEAR AND ATHLETICS AND ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE COMING TOWARDS THEM, THEY HAVE TOTALLY RAISED.

I MEAN, THE TOTAL THEY'VE RAISED, EXCUSE ME, IS $36,582 FOR THE CORONADO SCHOOL.

SO IN ADDITION TO TWO REALLY COOL WATER BOTTLES, I'M ALSO PRESENTING THEM TODAY WITH THE 2023 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR CSF.

THIS IS A GREAT HONOR.

WE'D LIKE TO THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND WHAT WE DO FOR THE SCHOOL.

IT MEANS A LOT TO US AND WE ENJOY DOING IT FOR YOU GUYS.

THANK YOU. I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHAT TO SAY.

IT'S AN AMAZING HONOR.

WE APPRECIATE IT.

AND WE WILL CONTINUE UNTIL WE'RE OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AND HOPEFULLY CONTINUE THE TRADITION FOR MORE HIGH SCHOOLERS TO COME. JACK AND GRACE ON BEHALF OF THE GOVERNING BOARD AND OUR STAFF AND STUDENTS AND THE COMMUNITY OF CORONADO, WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU.

THIS YEAR, WE'RE ENGAGING IN WORK CALLED THE PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE, AND A LOT OF THE BUZZWORDS RIGHT NOW IN PUBLIC EDUCATION ARE TEACHING GLOBAL COMPETENCIES, HOW TO PREPARE STUDENTS TO BE GOOD CITIZENS OF THE WORLD.

I CAN'T THINK OF TWO FINER EXAMPLES THAN THE TWO OF YOU.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR SERVICE.

[INAUDIBLE].

ALL RIGHT. MOVING ON TO ITEM 3.0.

[3. CONSOLIDATED MOTION FOR CONSENT CALENDAR ]

DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON THE CONSOLIDATED MOTION FOR CONSENT CALENDAR? DO I HAVE A MOTION TO ADOPT THE CONSENT CALENDAR? SO MOVED.

ANY SECOND.

SECOND. CALL FOR THE VOTE, PLEASE.

[00:20:11]

ALL RIGHT, MOTION PASSES.

PRESIDENT PALACIOS-PETERS.

YES, MA'AM. WE GO ON.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE A COMMENT REALLY QUICKLY ON ITEM 3.1, AND TO TAKE A MINUTE TO THANK RAJIV FOR HIS GENEROUS GIFT TO SILVER STRAND TO COMMEMORATE THE LEGACY OF THE SUSAN LARSON, THE TEACHER THERE.

SUSAN WAS, A TOTALLY DEDICATED TEACHER WHO CHALLENGED THE STATUS QUO IN A GOOD WAY.

SHE WAS A TIRELESS ADVOCATE FOR HER STUDENTS, AND SHE MADE SILVER STRAND ELEMENTARY A GREAT PLACE TO WORK AND WONDERFUL, A WONDERFUL MEMORY GARDEN FOR HER THERE.

AND I'M GLAD THAT WE'RE ABLE TO TO MAINTAIN THAT AND KEEP THAT UP.

MADAM PRESIDENT, I HAVE ONE COMMENT.

BEFORE WE MOVE ON TO 4.0, WITHIN THE 3.3.

AND THE GOVERNING BOARD IS AWARE OF THIS, BUT FOR THE COMMUNITY'S AWARENESS, AGENDA ITEM 3.3, THE PERSONNEL REGISTER.

WELCOME, MR. KUSSEROW.

MR. KUSSEROW HAS JOINED US FROM THE SANTA MONICA AREA, WHERE HE FOUNDED AN EDUCATIONAL CONSULTING FIRM.

PRIOR TO THAT, HE SERVED AS THE CEO AND HEAD OF SCHOOLS FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS CALTHORPE SCHOOL IN SANTA MONICA FOR FOUR YEARS.

BRINGS WITH HIM A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE, AND I KNOW THE CORONADO HIGH SCHOOL STAFF AND STUDENT BODY ARE EXCITED TO WORK WITH YOU.

WELCOME ABOARD, MR. KUSSEROW.

MOVING ON TO ITEM 5.2 AWARD CONTRACT FOR CUSD 2023.

PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF WALK IN REFRIGERATOR FREEZER COMBO.

ARE THERE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEM 5.2? SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT.

I KNOW THE COMMUNITY AND THE GOVERNING BOARD HAVE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW THIS CONTRACT.

DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT SALAMANCA IS AVAILABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS ACTION ITEM.

IT IS STAFF'S RECOMMENDATION FOR APPROVAL OF THE AWARD OF THE CONTRACT TO PURCHASE AND INSTALL THE WALK IN REFRIGERATOR AND FREEZER COMBO.

TRUSTEES. ANY COMMENTS? IF I MAY, I WOULD JUST LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE THE OUTSTANDING PROGRAM CHILD NUTRITION SERVICES, THAT HAS HAD THAT PROGRAM OPERATING IN THE BLACK FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS AND ARE MAKING AMAZING STRIDES FOR OUR STUDENTS AND EVERYONE'S NUTRITION NEEDS AND APPLAUD THEIR EFFORTS BECAUSE THIS WOULDN'T BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THAT.

SO RECOGNIZING THEM AND THEIR TEAM BECAUSE THEY ARE QUITE A TEAM.

[00:25:02]

THANK YOU TO CHARITY AND HER TEAM.

THANK YOU TRUSTEE ANTRIM FOR THAT.

AND, JUST A REMINDER FOR THE COMMUNITY, THE FUNDS USED TO PURCHASE THIS ARE COMING OUT OF, THE CAFETERIA FUND FOR OUR CHILD NUTRITION SERVICES PROGRAM.

THOSE FUNDS ARE RESTRICTED FOR PURPOSES OF THAT PROGRAM.

THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THE EFFORTS OF CHARITY AND HER TEAM.

DO I HAVE A MOTION ON THIS ITEM? SO MOVED. SECOND.

CALL FOR THE VOTE, PLEASE.

MOTION PASSES.

[5.3 Accept the Annual Audit for the Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2023]

MOVING ON TO ITEM 5.3 ACCEPTING THE ANNUAL AUDIT FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30TH, 2023.

ARE THERE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEM 5.3? SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT, FOR AGENDA ITEM 5.3.

I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT SALAMANCA, MR. SALAMANCA. THANK YOU.

SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER. I KNOW THAT OUR AUDIT FIRM GRASP AUDIT PARTNER WILL BE JOINING US.

I KNOW KAMI IS WORKING TO GET THAT QUEUED UP VIA ZOOM.

I DO WANT TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY WHILE SHE'S QUEUING THAT UP TO RECOGNIZE AND THANK OUR HARDWORKING DISTRICT FISCAL SERVICES TEAM.

AS I'VE MENTIONED MANY TIMES BEFORE IN OUR BUDGET PRESENTATIONS AND ADOPTED BUDGET PRESENTATIONS, WE'RE A SMALL BUT MIGHTY TEAM AND THEY, THE SIX PEOPLE THAT MAKE UP THE FISCAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT ARE REALLY, TO BE ATTRIBUTED AND THANKED FOR THEIR EFFORTS.

WE'RE EXCITED TO REPORT A CLEAN AUDIT REPORT, NOT TO PREEMPT THE BUDGET PARTNER AS SHE'S LOADING AND BUYING A LITTLE BIT OF TIME.

BUT REALLY, TRULY, THANK YOU TO THAT WONDERFUL TEAM.

COULDN'T BE HAPPIER WITH THE RESULTS OF THIS, AUDIT REPORT.

I'LL TURN IT OVER TO YOU. MISS GROSSMAN, CAN YOU HEAR US? I CAN.

GOOD EVENING. CAN EVERYBODY HEAR ME AND SEE ME? OKAY. YES.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US.

GREAT. SO LET ME GO AHEAD AND SHARE MY SCREEN.

AND CAN EVERYBODY SEE THE AUDIT REPORT ON YOUR SCREEN? YEAH. OKAY.

KEEP GOING. OKAY, SO JUST TO START OFF, AS DONNIE MENTIONED HERE TO PRESENT FOR YOU THE AUDIT RESULTS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30TH, 2023. IF THERE'S ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS, I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY OF THOSE AS WELL.

I'LL JUST GO OVER A COUPLE OF THE REALLY HIGHLIGHTED SECTIONS, A COUPLE KEY PAGES, RELATED SPECIFICALLY TO OUR AUDIT RESULTS.

SO WHAT YOU'RE SEEING RIGHT NOW IS, IN FACT, OUR INDEPENDENT AUDITORS REPORT.

IT'S THE REASON WE'RE HERE.

OUR PURPOSE OF THE AUDIT IS TO PROVIDE YOU WITH REASONABLE ASSURANCE THAT THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS IS PRESENTED, ARE MATERIALLY STATED BASED ON OUR AUDIT.

AND SO WITH THAT, THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF ASSURANCE WE CAN PROVIDE IN AN AUDIT IS REFERRED TO AS AN UNMODIFIED OPINION, THAT WE CONSIDER A CLEAN REPORT AND YOUR REPORT IS AN UNMODIFIED OPINION.

SO IT IS IT DOES MEAN THAT WE BELIEVE THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AS PRESENTED ARE MATERIALLY STATED BASED ON OUR AUDIT.

SO AGAIN, A CLEAN REPORT, HIGHEST LEVEL OF ASSURANCE THAT WE WOULD PROVIDE YOU IN AN AUDIT.

NOW HERE'S THE GOOD PART.

SO THIS 112 PAGE DOCUMENT, I'M GOING TO JUST GO RIGHT ON BY ALL THE DETAILS.

HOPEFULLY YOU'VE ALL HAD A CHANCE TO READ IT AND TAKE A LOOK AT OF THE SPECIFIC PAGES THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST TO YOU.

BUT WHAT I'M GOING TO BRING YOU TO IS MY FAVORITE PAGE IN THIS DOCUMENT.

AND THIS IS OUR SUMMARY OF AUDITORS RESULTS.

SO THIS REALLY IS WHERE WE PROVIDE YOU NOT ONLY AN OPINION ON INTERNAL OR ON THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS THEMSELVES, BUT WE PROVIDE THE RESULTS OF THE THREE OTHER REPORTS THAT ARE INCLUDED WITHIN THIS AUDIT REPORT, THE FIRST OF WHICH IS OUR INTERNAL CONTROL OVER FINANCIAL REPORTING. THE PURPOSE OF THIS, REPORT SPECIFICALLY, IS TO PROVIDE YOU WITH, A REPORT ON INTERNAL CONTROLS, NOT A AN OPINION. BUT IF ANYTHING COMES TO OUR ATTENTION DURING OUR AUDIT THAT WE DEFINE AS MATERIAL WEAKNESS OR SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCIES, WE DO REPORT THOSE TO YOU. AND SO WITH THIS REPORT, WE DO HAVE ONE FINDING THAT WE LABELED AS MATERIAL WEAKNESS INCLUDED IN YOUR REPORT.

IT IS DETAILED OUT IN THE SUBSEQUENT PAGES FOR YOUR REVIEW.

THE OTHER REPORT THAT WE DO PROVIDE IS YOUR REPORT ON FEDERAL AWARDS.

THIS REPORT IS A COMPLIANCE REPORT AS WELL AS A REPORT ON THE INTERNAL CONTROLS SPECIFIC TO FEDERAL COMPLIANCE.

[00:30:04]

AND THIS IS A CLEAN REPORT.

SO THE OPINION ON COMPLIANCE IS UNMODIFIED AND THERE ARE NO CONTROL DEFICIENCIES REPORTED ON THE FEDERAL PROGRAMS THAT WERE SUBJECT TO AUDIT THIS YEAR, WHICH ARE IDENTIFIED AS WELL ON THIS PAGE.

AS YOU CAN SEE, YOUR IMPACT AID PROGRAM, AS WELL AS THE SUPPORT FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AT MILITARY CONNECTED SCHOOLS PROGRAMS. THE LAST BUT NOT LEAST IS THE STATE COMPLIANCE REPORT.

THIS IS A REPORT ON STATE COMPLIANCE AS MANDATED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND THE STATE COMPTROLLER'S OFFICE.

THIS REPORT IS AN UNMODIFIED REPORT, SO NO COMPLIANCE ISSUES NOTED THERE AND NO, INTERNAL CONTROL ISSUES TO REPORT ON YOUR STATE COMPLIANCE AS WELL.

SO FOR THE MOST PART, OVERALL, AGAIN, NO MAJOR COMPLIANCE ISSUES IN EITHER YOUR FEDERAL OR STATE AND NO INTERNAL CONTROLS OVER FEDERAL AND STATE PROGRAMS. SO AS I SAID, I WAS JUST GOING TO COVER THE HIGHLIGHTS.

AND THAT REALLY DOES, SUMMARIZE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE REPORT.

I AM HAPPY TO TAKE ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS OR REFER TO ANY SPECIFIC PAGES THAT YOU MAY, HAVE QUESTIONS ON OR WOULD LIKE ME TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ON. TRUSTEES.

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? LOOKS LIKE THERE ARE NO QUESTIONS.

YOU MAKE MY JOB EASY.

I'LL STOP SHARING NOW.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR THAT PRESENTATION, SHILOH.

AND GOOD LUCK AT THE REST OF YOUR BOARD MEETINGS TONIGHT.

I KNOW YOU'VE GOT FOUR OTHERS SCHEDULED THIS EVENING, SO THANK YOU FOR JOINING US REMOTELY.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

TAKE CARE. AND BEFORE THE BOARD TAKES ACTION, I JUST WANT TO REMIND THE PUBLIC AND ANYONE INTERESTED THAT THE AUDIT REPORT AND ALL OF THE DISTRICT'S FINANCIAL STATEMENTS CAN BE FOUND ON THE DISTRICT'S WEBSITE.

THERE'S ALSO A LINK INCLUDED IN THIS AGENDA ITEM.

THANK YOU, MR. SALAMANCA.

DO I HAVE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE ANNUAL AUDIT? SECOND. THANK YOU.

CALL FOR THE VOTE.

MOTION PASSES.

MOVING ON TO ITEM SIX REPORTS 6.1 STUDENT BOARD MEMBER REPORT.

[6.1 Student Board Member Report: Wyatt Riebe ]

DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEM 6.1? MR. WYATT.

MR. RIEBE. SORRY.

EITHER OR. FIRST OR LAST.

THAT'S OKAY. SO MY REPORT, I WILL START WITH, THE VILLAGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

SO WE ALL JUST GOT OFF WINTER BREAK, RECENTLY.

THE VILLAGE ELEMENTARY, MADE A NOTE ON THEIR, NEWSLETTER THIS WEEK THAT THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE A MEETING ABOUT THE SOLAR ECLIPSE THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN ON APRIL 8TH.

AND THEY'RE HAVING THAT MEETING JANUARY 23RD, WHICH I THINK IS PRETTY COOL THAT THEY'RE LOOKING INTO THAT.

I DID NOT KNOW THAT WAS COMING UP HERE SOON.

WE ALSO HAVE A CLUB AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WHERE THEY GO OVER AND READ TO THE STUDENTS OVER AT VILLAGE, WHICH I THINK IS A VERY COOL PROGRAM, WHICH IS UP AND RUNNING.

AND THEY ALSO, I KNOW I THINK ALL SCHOOL, SCHOOLS WITHIN THE DISTRICT ARE GOING TO BE PARTICIPATING IN THE KINDNESS CHALLENGE WEEK.

SO WE ARE GOING TO SEE THAT, COMING UP HERE IN JANUARY.

JUMPING TO THE SILVER STRAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THEY HAVE THEIR APEX RUN.

I IMAGINE THIS IS, THE, SIMILAR TO THE JOGATHON, WHICH I REMEMBER DOING, DOWN IN THE SILVER STRAND.

SO THEY HAVE THAT.

THEY ALSO HAVE A NEW MERCH DROP, WHICH IS SUPER COOL.

ON THEIR WEBSITE, THEY HAVE A LOT OF NEW, SILVER STRAND GEAR.

THE PTO IS HAVING A POTLUCK.

AND THEIR, REPORT CARDS ARE BEING, SENT HOME FEBRUARY 2ND.

THE MIDDLE SCHOOL HAS A SPELLING BEE.

THE 25TH AND GRAND ESSER HALL, WHICH IS VERY COOL.

ADVANCED BAND AND CHOIR ARE HAVE THEIR DISNEY TRIPS, LINED UP WHERE THEY GET TO PERFORM.

I WAS NEVER A PART OF CHOIR BAND, BUT THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PRETTY FUN WAY TO SPEND THE SCHOOL DAY GOING OUT TO DISNEY AND SINGING OR PERFORMING.

THEY ALSO WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE, AND THEY WILL BE STARTING THEIR THIRD, ROTATION OF THE WHEEL CLASS, COMING UP HERE THIS NEXT WEEK. AND AS FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL, WE HAVE WINTER FORMAL TOMORROW, WHICH I WILL BE ATTENDING.

I'M VERY EXCITED. IT'S GOING TO BE AT THE MARRIOTT HERE ON, CORONADO.

[00:35:02]

TODAY IS ACTUALLY SPIRIT DAY.

I'M CURRENTLY WEARING SOME PAJAMA PANTS AND SOME SLIPPERS.

SO I DON'T MEAN TO BE, NOT IN A FORMAL ATTIRE I WORE A BUTTON UP T SHIRT.

BUT, I DID ALSO HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SPIRIT.

COULD HAVE BEEN A PAJAMA DAY FOR ALL OF US.

YEAH, SHOULD HAVE.

NEXT YEAR. SO WE HAD MONDAY ADAMS OR TUESDAY.

MONDAY WE HAD OFF, MONDAY.

WHAT? TUESDAY WAS ADAM SANDLER DAY.

WEDNESDAY WAS TWIN DAY.

THURSDAY. TODAY IS PJ DAY.

AND TOMORROW WE'LL WEAR OUR CLASS SHIRTS.

LIKE WE STARTED OFF THE MEETING WITH, WE ARE SAYING GOODBYE TO NOT ONLY MISTER HEAPHY AND MISTER LEMEI, BUT ALSO MRS. WHITE, AND MR. COLLINS, WHO WAS OUR INTERIM VICE PRINCIPAL.

AND WE HAVE, MISTER KUSSEROW, TO TAKE UP HIS PLACE.

AND I'VE HAD A COUPLE CONVERSATIONS AND HE IS GREAT.

SO I CAN'T WAIT TO START THIS NEXT SEMESTER WITH HIM.

WE ARE GETTING OUR NEW CLASSES.

NOT THIS WEEK.

BUT IN THE NEXT WEEK, WHICH I LOOK FORWARD TO.

AND WE HAVE A COUPLE NEW, COURSES THAT ARE GOING TO BE OFFERED NEXT YEAR AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH I THINK WE WILL HEAR MORE ABOUT, LATER ON THIS, MEETING LAST NIGHT WAS THE FAFSA, STUDENT FINANCIAL AID, MEETING.

MY PARENTS WERE IN ATTENDANCE.

I HAD SAILING PRACTICE, SO I WASN'T ABLE TO ATTEND, BUT I HEARD THAT THERE WAS, 50 OR SO PARENTS THAT WERE THERE, LEARNING ABOUT THIS THING FOR SENIORS THAT IS REQUIRED TO GET FILLED OUT, SO.

THAT'S GOOD.

WE HAVE FINALS THIS NEXT WEEK.

AND WE HAVE COLLEGE CAREER DAY, THE 29TH OF JANUARY, WHICH WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO DOWN THE ROAD.

ALSO TONIGHT IS THE, CONSERVATORY, VISUAL ARTS CONSERVATORY IN THE BLACK BOX THEATER, WHICH I HOPE TO GO CHECK OUT TOMORROW. BUT I KNOW THEY'RE HAVING, DEMONSTRATION, THIS EVENING.

SO THAT'S ALL FOR MY REPORT.

IF THERE'S ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS.

THAT WAS GREAT. THANK YOU, MR. RIEBE. OF COURSE.

[INAUDIBLE] YES.

MR. RIEBE, IS THERE A THEME FOR THE WINTER FORMAL? I BELIEVE THE THEME IS IS WINTER.

I KNOW, SOLID.

SO THIS, THE WINTER FORMAL IS HEADED UP BY OUR SOPHOMORE CLASS.

AND I KNOW THEY DID.

CALL THEM OUT. BUT, YEAH, I BELIEVE, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO GET SEMI-FORMAL.

I'M DOING. I'M HAVING HOSTING SOME FRIENDS OVER FOR DINNER BEFOREHAND.

AND IT'S HELD AT THE MARRIOTT, SO I AM EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THE SOPHOMORES HAVE PUT TOGETHER.

I KNOW IT IS WINTER THEMED.

SO SOMETHING OF A WINTER WONDERLAND, I'M SURE.

THANK YOU. MOVING ON TO ITEM 6.2, SILVER STRAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT.

[6.2 Silver Strand Elementary School Annual Report: Principal, Jennifer Moore]

DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEM 6.2? SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT.

IT'S A PRIVILEGE AND AN HONOR TO WELCOME OUR PRINCIPAL AT SILVER STRAND ELEMENTARY AND ALL OF HER SILVER STRAND STAFF HERE IN ATTENDANCE TO CHEER HER ON PRINCIPAL JENNY MOORE.

THANKS. THANK YOU.

AND GOOD EVENING, TRUSTEES AND COLLEAGUES.

AN WYATT, I'M.

I LOVE MY JOB AT SILVER STRAND.

BUT YOU MADE ME MISS HIGH SCHOOL FOR A MINUTE THERE.

THE HUMOR AND INTELLECT, AND, YEAH.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

IT I WILL RESTATE THAT IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO WORK IN THIS DISTRICT.

I LISTEN TO MR. HEAPHY. THANK YOU FOR THAT PRIVILEGE.

I FEEL THAT MYSELF AND WANT TO, EMPHASIZE WHAT A PRIVILEGE IT IS TO WORK IN THIS DISTRICT.

WHAT A PRIVILEGE IT IS FOR ME TO LAND AT THIS SPECIAL SCHOOL, STAND BESIDE MY COLLEAGUE ALLISON KEENE, AND HAVE, IN THE AUDIENCE.

YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU'RE A PRINCIPAL AND YOU ASSUME, THE LEADERSHIP OF A SCHOOL, YOU HAVE THOSE STAFF MEMBERS WHO PRECEDE YOU, FROM WHOM YOU LEARN A LOT, AND THOSE, TEAMMATES THAT YOU HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO BRING ABOARD.

AND THERE'S A GREAT REPRESENTATION IN THIS ROOM OF, THOSE TYPES OF COLLEAGUES THAT I STILL CONTINUE TO LEARN FROM.

AND THEN, OF COURSE, THE FAMILIES AND STUDENTS OF SILVER STRAND WHO ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

SO WE'RE EXCITED TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT SILVER STRAND TONIGHT.

[00:40:03]

WE KNOW THAT YOU'VE SEEN OUR REPORT THOUGH, SO WE'RE JUST GOING TO TOUCH ON BRIEFLY THE SLIDES THAT WE HAVE PREPARED FOR YOU.

SO WE ARE A SPECIAL GEM IN THE DISTRICT FROM THE STANDPOINT OF GEOGRAPHICALLY WHERE WE'RE LOCATED A LITTLE BIT FARTHER DOWN, AWAY FROM THE OTHER SCHOOLS AND WITH THE BAY ON ONE SIDE AND THE BEACH ON THE OTHER, AND ON FEDERAL LAND IN A NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE MILITARY FAMILIES LIVE AND CAN WALK TO SCHOOL. AND WE ALSO SERVE THE UNIQUE NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE CORONADO CAYS.

SO REALLY SPECIAL.

AND RIGHT NOW, OUR MILITARY POPULATION, IT FLUCTUATES A LITTLE BIT.

THIS YEAR IT'S 73%.

SO THAT'S A BIG PART OF WHO WE ARE OBVIOUSLY.

AND WE'RE PROUD.

PURPLE STAR SCHOOL.

WE HAVE ONE OF THE THEMES THAT I WANT TO ACCENTUATE TONIGHT IS JUST HOW I THINK WE'VE REALLY ESTABLISHED AND MAINTAINED THE TRADITIONS AND CULTURE OF OUR SMALL SCHOOL.

ONE OF THOSE IS FRIDAY FLAGPOLE ASSEMBLIES, WHERE WE GATHER AS A COMMUNITY.

WE'RE VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE COMMUNITY PARTNERS WHO GATHER WITH US.

THE CORONADO POLICE DEPARTMENT IN PARTICULAR, WHO PROVIDE SOME PROTECTION AND SAFETY AND CONFIDENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY WHEN THEY'RE THERE WITH US.

WE HAVE OUR CHOIR PROGRAM PERFORMS AND WE HAVE RECOGNITIONS FOR OUR STUDENTS BASED ON COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AS WELL.

AND WE'LL BE RECOGNIZING SOME STUDENTS TOMORROW MORNING WHO WROTE LETTERS TO THE TROOPS.

SO THE MILITARY MILITARY OFFICERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA RECOGNIZES THEM.

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

TODAY WE HAD OUR APEX FUN RUN, ONE OF OUR TRADITIONS.

SO THE ENTIRE SCHOOL PARTICIPATED IN THAT, WHICH WAS REALLY EXCITING.

AND, WE JUST AN OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR STAFF AND STUDENTS TO SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER, OUR PTO, TO HELP US RAISE FUNDS. AND SO WE HAVE SOME TIRED VOYAGERS THIS EVENING.

AND THEN COMING UP ON OUR HORIZON, AND JODY JUDD, WHO'S IN THE AUDIENCE TONIGHT, BROUGHT THIS ACTIVITY TO US, THE GLOBAL SCHOOL PLAY DAY.

WE CAN'T TALK ABOUT IT ENOUGH BECAUSE OF HOW MAGICAL IT IS.

BUT ON FEBRUARY 7TH, WEDNESDAY, WE'LL BE PARTICIPATING IN THIS EVENT IN WHICH STUDENTS SPEND THE DAY IN FAIRLY UNSTRUCTURED, CREATIVE PLAY BUILDING FORTS, PLAYING BOARD GAMES, WRITING, READING ANYTHING THAT'S NOT ELECTRONIC.

AND THAT'S A SPECIAL DAY AT SILVER STRAND THAT WE'RE HOPING WILL CATCH ON AT OTHER SITES AS WELL.

I THINK AS FAR AS OUR DEMOGRAPHICS GO, WE'VE BEEN FAIRLY CONSISTENT WITH OUR SCHOOL POPULATION AND ENROLLMENT.

WE I LOVE THE SIZE OF OUR SCHOOL WITH TWO CLASSES PER GRADE LEVEL.

IT DOES FEEL LIKE A SCHOOL WHERE EVERYONE CAN KNOW EVERYONE AND KNOW WHERE EVERYTHING IS.

AND, SO AND WE THANK YOU FOR SUSTAINING A SCHOOL OF THAT SIZE, BECAUSE WE KNOW IN SOME NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS THEY'RE GIVING CRITICAL EYE AT SCHOOLS, THAT HAVE RELATIVELY THE SAME POPULATION.

BUT WE KNOW HOW IMPORTANT WE ARE IN THIS DISTRICT, SO WE'RE NOT AFRAID.

LET'S SEE.

WE'LL MOVE ON TO I THINK WE'LL JUMP PAST THESE.

WE ARE A TITLE ONE TARGETED PROGRAM ASSISTANCE SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT THAT'S, A UNIQUE PART OF OUR PROFILE, AND IT DOES PROVIDE THE DISTRICT AND OUR SCHOOL WITH SOME ADDITIONAL RESOURCES.

WE EARMARK OUR TITLE ONE FUNDS FOR INTERVENTION PROGRAMS IN THE FORM OF OUR READING SPECIALIST PROGRAMS. SO AND WE SEE THE IMPACT OF THAT EVERY SINGLE DAY.

WE WILL. WE ARE.

WE'RE PROUD OF OUR ASSESSMENT DATA.

OF COURSE, OUR STATE TESTING DATA IS ONE, SUMMATIVE MARKER FOR US.

WE'RE GATHERING, YOU KNOW, FORMATIVE DATA.

AND WHAT WE'VE COME TO CALL STREET DATA, WHICH IS REALLY WHAT WE SEE FROM OUR STUDENTS ON A DAILY BASIS THAT SHOWS US MORE INTIMATELY WHAT THEY KNOW HOW TO DO.

AND SO OUR ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS.

DATA IS HERE AND WE'LL WELCOME QUESTIONS ON THAT.

AND THEN MATH.

WE'RE OBVIOUSLY VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE GROWTH IN MATH AT SILVER STRAND.

WE WE CREDIT THE CURRICULUM THAT WE'VE ADOPTED, WHICH HAS, I THINK, GROWN ALL OF US IN OUR MATH THINKING.

THE ROLE OF NUMBER CORNERS AND NUMBER TALKS.

THE GRANT WHICH HAS AFFORDED US MATH INTERVENTION AND THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO UTILIZE OTHER STAFF MEMBERS

[00:45:06]

IN ROLES TO SUPPORT MATH PUSH AND SUPPORT.

SO WE FEEL LIKE WE'RE REALLY ON A GOOD TRACK TO, PROVIDE SMALLER GROUP SUPPORTS FOR STUDENTS AND TO LOOK CRITICALLY AT SKILLS THAT NEED REINFORCEMENT.

SCIENCE, OUR SCIENCE DATA.

WE'RE VERY EXCITED THAT ONE OF OUR COLLEAGUES, SARAH, WERE SORRY THAT SHE IS MOVING AWAY FROM STRAND, BUT WE ARE EXCITED SHE'S STAYING IN THE DISTRICT AS A SCIENCE TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT THROUGH ANOTHER [INAUDIBLE] GRANT, AND WE ARE EXCITED FOR HER TO SUPPORT THE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN ALIGNING AND ARTICULATING SCIENCE INSTRUCTION, WORKING WITH OUR INNOVATION LAB TEACHERS AS WELL.

AS WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE SOME AREAS OF GROWTH IN THE AREAS OF SCIENCE AS WE LOOK AT HOW WE ARE EMBEDDING IT IN INSTRUCTION, ACROSS THE GRADES.

BUT WE ARE, ENGAGING IN A LOT OF HANDS ON SCIENCE IN OUR UPPER GRADE LEVELS.

I HAD A DREAM THAT FEATURED HISSING COCKROACHES, AND I KNEW THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THIRD GRADE LAST YEAR.

THAT WAS MY ONLY ASSOCIATION WITH HISSING COCKROACHES, AND WE HAD MULTIPLYING HISSING COCKROACHES IN THIRD GRADE LAST YEAR.

SO THANKS TO [INAUDIBLE], SOME OF THOSE STUDENTS TOOK THEM HOME AS WELL AT THE END.

BE CLEAR PARENTS ON WHAT WHICH CLASSROOM PETS YOU WANT TO ADOPT.

SO WE HAVE SOME NOTES ON OUR ASSESSMENT DATA AND BEST PRACTICES.

YOU KNOW, THESE ARE OBSERVATIONS AND SUPPOSITIONS ABOUT THE PROGRESS THAT WE SEE.

WE KNOW THAT WE BELIEVE IN AND HAVE BENEFITED FROM SMALL GROUP GUIDED READING AND INTERVENTION PROGRAMS. THAT'S BEEN A PRECEDING PRINCIPALS HAVE MADE THAT A PRIORITY TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS DEDICATED TIME FOR STUDENTS TO READ AND READ WITH ADULTS AND BE GUIDED BY ADULTS.

WE HAVE A PILOT HAPPENING IN KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE, AND THE FOUNDATIONS PROGRAM FOUNDATIONS IS A RESEARCH BASED PROGRAM THAT INTERVENES TO HELP STUDENTS WITH, READING DIFFICULTIES, INCLUDING DYSLEXIA.

WE'RE USING IT IN OUR GEN ED STUDENT POPULATION AS WELL, RECOGNIZING THAT THERE'S A NEED FOR, PHONICS INSTRUCTION.

WE'RE ALSO RECOGNIZING THAT BALANCE BETWEEN READING AND, COMPREHENSION SKILLS AND PHONICS SKILLS IS A DYNAMIC ONE.

AND ONE, WE WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK AT AND FORM GOALS AROUND AS OUR STUDENTS MOVE THROUGH THE GRADE LEVELS.

AND THEN IN MATH, I MENTIONED THE NEW INTERVENTIONS, THE FIDELITY TOUR TO OUR MATH, CURRICULUM.

CO-TEACHING HAS BEEN A BOON FOR OUR STUDENTS AND OUR TEACHERS WHO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER WHILE THEY'RE TEACHING STUDENTS.

HAVING TWO INSTRUCTORS IN THE CLASSROOM, SUPPORTING STUDENTS AT ALL LEVELS IS WONDERFUL.

AND THERE'S A LOT OF, DYNAMIC CONVERSATIONS THAT HAPPEN WITHIN CO-TEACHING.

AND THEN I WANT TO EMPHASIZE JUST COLLABORATION, ALIGNMENT AND ARTICULATION, THOSE CONVERSATIONS THAT HAPPEN ABOUT PACING AND UNIT AND LESSON PLANNING BETWEEN TEAMMATES AND THEN COLLABORATIONS BETWEEN THE GRADE LEVELS, ABOUT WHERE ARE STUDENTS GOING WHEN THEY LEAVE MY CLASSROOM, HOW CAN I BEST PREPARE THEM, AND WHAT HAVE THEY LEARNED IN PRIOR YEARS? WE HAVE SOME REALLY EXCITING DATA ABOUT OUR STUDENTS.

THERE'S CASP SCORES, IN THE SUBGROUP OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES, I'M GOING TO ASK ALISON.

YES, I WANTED TO SAY IT'S BEEN AMAZING TO BE DOWN AT SILVER STRAND.

AND AS JENNY, I'D LIKE TO ECHO, EVERYBODY IS SUPER WELCOMING.

AS SOON AS I WALKED ONTO THE CAMPUS, IT WAS LIKE, HEY, IT'S GREAT TO HAVE YOU.

AND IT'S MY, YOU KNOW, JUMPING INTO THE ELEMENTARY WORLD.

AND IT'S BEEN REALLY EXCITING.

AND I LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY WITH OUR APEX RUN TODAY.

IT WAS WONDERFUL. I WAS HELPING OUT SOME KINDERGARTNERS, AND A KINDERGARTNERS SAID TO ME, I DON'T LIKE TO DO ANYTHING HEALTHY, BUT I'M GOING TO KEEP RUNNING AND GO.

AND EVERY TIME HE WOULD RUN AROUND, HE'D LOOK AT ME AND BE LIKE, I'M STILL GOING.

AND I WAS LIKE, I'M RIGHT THERE WITH YOU.

I AM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU.

SO IT'S BEEN REALLY AWESOME.

JUST, YOU KNOW, LEARNING, YOU KNOW, THE YOUNGER LEVELS OF KIDS AND THEN LOOKING AT THIS DATA, WHICH IS AMAZING WITH OUR STUDENTS IN THE CASP TESTING.

AND WHEN I LOOKED AT IT AND I THOUGHT, YES, ABSOLUTELY.

ALL THE THINGS THAT WERE NOTED HERE OF OUR INCLUSION MODEL, THE CO-TEACHING, OUR TRAINING, COLLABORATION WITH THAT SUPER EXPERIENCED STAFF.

AND THEN I THOUGHT MORE TOO, OF JUST THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE TEST.

AND WHAT A TESTAMENT IT IS THAT, YOU KNOW, OUR ED SPECIALISTS KNOW THE BEST ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR STUDENTS.

THEY RECOGNIZE ALL THE THINGS THAT CASP HAS EMBEDDED, WHETHER IT'S EMBEDDED, SUPPORTS, THROUGH THE COMPUTER OR IF IT'S NOT EMBEDDED, LIKE, OH, I KNOW THE STUDENT'S GOING TO NEED

[00:50:04]

A MULTIPLICATION TABLE, OR I KNOW THE STUDENT'S GOING TO NEED SOMETHING READ ALOUD TO THEM IN ORDER FOR THEM TO SUCCEED.

IS AMAZING TO PUT THAT TOGETHER.

AND THEN ALSO JUST ALL THE TEACHERS ENCOURAGING STUDENTS TO USE ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT ARE AVAILABLE WHEN TAKING THE TEST, WHETHER IT'S USING LIKE THE HIGHLIGHT TOOL THAT'S IN THERE, BUT JUST REALLY USING THAT AND IT SHOWS IN THE SCORES, WHICH IS SUPER EXCITING.

AND I LOOK FORWARD TO STARTING TESTING HERE SOON.

AND OUTSIDE OF TESTING, THOSE ARE JUST REALLY GOOD PRACTICES FOR HOW WE LOOK AT AND WORK WITH PROBLEMS AND ACADEMIC TASKS.

SO SINCE I'VE BEEN AT SILVER STRAND, THERE'S BEEN A REVOLUTION IN SPECIAL EDUCATION.

I THINK WHEN I ARRIVED, WE HAD ONE EDUCATION SPECIALIST AND A PROGRAM THAT WAS NOT DESIGNED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF A WIDE SPECTRUM OF STUDENTS.

AND OVER OUR TENURE, MY TENURE WITH SILVER STRAND AND WORK WITH THE DISTRICT AND THE STUDENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT, WE HAVE EXPANDED OUR PROGRAM TO TO REALLY BE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS FROM MILD TO INTENSIVE NEEDS AND DISABILITIES.

WE HAVE GROWN IN BUILDING A TEAM OF EDUCATION SPECIALISTS.

OBVIOUSLY, WE ALSO HAVE A PROGRAM SPECIALIST, WHICH HAS BEEN A HUGE RESOURCE FOR US.

ALISON PUTS HER HANDS INTO JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING SPED AND A LOT OF THINGS.

GEN ED TOO. WE I THINK THE MOST SIGNIFICANT THING TO NOTE IS THAT OUR GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHERS NOW HAVE A BROADER SPECTRUM OF STUDENTS IN THEIR CLASSROOMS TO IN THE INCLUSION MODEL, WE'VE ALL HAD TO LEARN A TON ABOUT BEHAVIOR.

AND I CAN TELL YOU, AS A FORMER HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR, I WISH I KNEW THE THINGS I'VE LEARNED IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS ABOUT BEHAVIOR SUPPORTS WHEN I WAS RAISING MY YOUNG CHILDREN, BECAUSE IT'S AMAZING LEARNING AND A BODY OF KNOWLEDGE IS SUPPORTING PEOPLE IN THEIR FEELINGS, HOW THEY RESPOND TO THEM AND HOW THEY RESPOND TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND MAKE DECISIONS IN THE WORLD.

AND I THINK THAT WE'VE EMBRACED THIS CHALLENGE, BUT IT HAS BEEN CHALLENGING.

SO WE APPRECIATE THAT REGISTERED BEHAVIOR TECHNICIANS HAVE BECOME A PART OF OUR DISTRICT.

AND I WANT TO FURTHER ADD THAT NOT JUST HAVING THEM AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT SUPPORTS, BUT HAVING THEM AVAILABLE AS A CAREER OPTION, WITHIN OUR DISTRICT, SO THAT IF YOU'RE AN INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE, YOU CAN GROW INTO AN INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE AUTHORIZATION, AND THEN YOU CAN POTENTIALLY BECOME AN RBT IF YOU TAKE THE RIGHT COURSE.

SO WE'VE WATCHED SOME SOME OF OUR PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS GROW IN THIS AND FIND A PASSION IN SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES.

VERY EXCITING. SO THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE WAYS THAT WE'VE GROWN.

THERE'S LOTS OF WE HAVE CELEBRATIONS AND CHALLENGES ALLISON'S GOING TO TOUCH ON.

YES. SO AS WE KNOW, WE'RE AN INCLUSION SCHOOL.

SO IT'S WONDERFUL TO SEE ALL OF OUR STUDENTS, YOU KNOW, WORKING TOGETHER.

YOU KNOW, THE PART OF I'M GLAD THAT I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME AND HELP SUPPORT, ALL STAFF, AS JENNY HAD MENTIONED, THAT I'M ABLE TO PULL SOME THINGS OFF OF THE ED SPECIALIST PLATES, LIKE I DO SOME TESTING.

I DO ALL KINDS OF DIFFERENT THINGS. I CAN DO THINGS FOR JENNY AS WELL.

SO I THINK THAT HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL.

THAT WE'RE ALSO, AS JENNY MENTIONED, CONTINUING TO GROW IN OUR AREA OF SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH BEHAVIORS.

AND, YOU KNOW, I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HOW, YOU KNOW, PASSIONATE EVERYONE IS AT STRAND TO SUPPORT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

AND IT'S BEEN AN INCREDIBLE CREW, THE ED SPECIALISTS, ARE PROFESSIONALS.

EVERYBODY JUST GETS IN THERE AND WORKS AS A TEAM AND SAYS, HOW CAN I BEST SUPPORT THIS STUDENT? YOU KNOW, EVEN IF IT MIGHT NOT BE SOMEBODY ON YOUR CASELOAD, THEY'LL, YOU KNOW, GIVE US IDEAS.

AND IT'S GREAT TO SEE THAT TEAMWORK.

IT'S BEEN GREAT THIS YEAR WITH OUR CO-TEACHING, HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, ON ONCE EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS TO LEARN DIFFERENT WAYS OF HOW TO WORK TOGETHER. BUT THEN EVEN JUST ALL BEING TOGETHER IN THE SAME ROOM, I FIND THAT THAT'S ALSO BEEN REALLY GREAT TO BE THERE WITH ALL THE CO-TEACHERS SO WE CAN ALL SHARE IDEAS.

AND THEN ALSO USING THE FOUNDATIONS AND WILSON HAS BEEN GREAT.

AND ONE THING WE KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE, YOU KNOW, POSITIONS THAT WE'RE STILL TRYING TO FILL WITH OUR PARAPROFESSIONALS AND, YOU KNOW, ABSENCES.

AND WE HAVE BEEN SO LUCKY WITH SOME AMAZING, CONSISTENT SUBSTITUTES THAT HAVE STEPPED IN AND HAVE JUST BECOME PART OF THE FAMILY.

AND IT'S BEEN REALLY AMAZING THAT THEY'RE SO INVESTED IN OUR SCHOOL AND OUR STUDENTS, WHICH HAS BEEN GREAT.

WE KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, OF COURSE, EVERYTHING HAS ITS CHALLENGES.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS WE ARE CONTINUING TO DO IS TO DIVE DEEPER INTO INCLUSION AND HOW IT CAN SUPPORT EVERYONE.

AND LOOKING AT, OUR STUDENTS WITH MORE OF THOSE INTENSIVE NEEDS AND RECOGNIZING THE NEED FOR MORE CURRICULUM.

AND IT'S BEEN GREAT THAT RYAN KELLER, OUR SPED COORDINATOR, HAS BEEN WORKING WITH US TO LOOK FOR DIFFERENT CURRICULUMS THAT ARE EVIDENCE BASED THAT COULD SUPPORT

[00:55:02]

ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

AND THEN JUST THAT CONTINUING SUPPORT FOR ALL OF OUR SUPPORT STAFF, BEING ABLE TO DO THAT AND, YOU KNOW, AND THE BEHAVIOR TRAINING, I'M EXCITED THAT I RECENTLY WAS ABLE TO BECOME CPI TRAINED SO THAT I'LL ALSO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT, IN TRAINING OTHERS WITH THAT.

SO AND, YOU KNOW, JUST THE CONSISTENCY OF OUR STAFF, WE KNOW THAT THERE IS THAT TURNOVER AND WE'RE ALWAYS, YOU KNOW, TRYING TO FIND THOSE AMAZING TEAMMATES TO TO STAY WITH US.

AND WE HAVE AN INCREDIBLE TEAM.

IT WAS EVIDENT TODAY IN THE KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE RACE.

THESE ARE OUR NEWEST STUDENTS.

YOU KNOW, WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO RUN, RUNNING ON A TRACK TODAY.

ALL OF OUR STUDENTS PARTICIPATED WITH THE HELP OF A LOT OF ADULTS WHO WERE TAGGING, YOU KNOW, TAGGING EACH OTHER OUT IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THESE CHILDREN RUN VERY FAST.

AND NOT ALL OF US TRAINED FOR THIS, RIGHT? SO 36 LAPS.

BUT, WE WERE OUR HEARTS WERE FULL, AND WE WERE VERY INSPIRED BY THE TEAMWORK THAT HAPPENED TODAY TO ENSURE THAT EVERY STUDENT RAN BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO AND COULD.

IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL THING.

SO THAT IS A AN INCLUSION MODEL HIGHLIGHT FOR SURE.

WE WANTED TO INCLUDE SOME DATA FROM THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY, IN PART BECAUSE IT WAS THE IT HAPPENS, YOU KNOW, NOT EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

SO IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT DATA WHEN WE GET IT.

WE HAD A PRETTY GOOD PARTICIPATION RATE, ACROSS THE BOARD.

AND WE WERE ABLE TO LOOK AT STRAND DATA SEPARATELY.

SO WE FOUND, YOU KNOW, SOME HIGHLIGHTS IN SCHOOL CONNECTEDNESS AND CARING ADULTS RULE CLARITY WAS GREAT TO SEE BECAUSE WE ARE WORKING ON RULE CLARITY A LOT.

AND WE HAVE OUR LITTLE SAFE, RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE AND KIND, THAT WE'RE PROMOTING, LOOKING AT AREAS OF GROWTH, OUR STUDENTS FEELING LIKE THEY HAVE MEANINGFUL PARTICIPATION IN THE RULES AND IN THE PROGRAMS THAT SILVER STRAND.

SO THAT'S AN AREA OF GROWTH FOR I WILL TAKE THAT ON ME, TO PROMOTE STUDENT INVOLVEMENT AND DECISION MAKING AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL.

OUR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND SUPPORTS ARE IMPORTANT.

AND WHEN WE REVIEWED AS A STAFF AT OUR LAST STAFF MEETING, THE TOP TEN RESEARCH EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH STUDIES FROM 2023, A META ANALYSIS OF SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING PROGRAMS REALLY REVEALS THAT THEY WORK AND THAT THEY'RE IMPORTANT IN IN SUPPORTING STUDENTS, BEING READY TO LEARN, BEING ABLE TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND INTERACT WITH ONE ANOTHER.

SO WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE AT STRAND IS A VARIETY OF THINGS.

WE HAVE CURRICULUM.

WE HAVE RECESS PROGRAMING.

WE USE PUSH AND SUPPORT.

YOU KNOW, WE TRY TO GO TO THE PROBLEM, WHICH IS WHY A LOT OF STUDENTS SOMETIMES ARE CURIOUS ABOUT MY OFFICE.

BUT WE LIKE TO, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE A VAST CAMPUS WHERE WE CAN MEET WITH STUDENTS ON A BENCH OUTSIDE AND PULL THEM OUT BRIEFLY AND HELP THEM REENTER THE CLASSROOM IN THE RIGHT SPACE. WE ALWAYS HAVE AREAS OF GROWTH IN TERMS OF COMMUNICATION, AND SOLIDIFYING HOW WE'RE RESPONDING TO BEHAVIORS AND DOCUMENTING, ETC.

BUT WE THINK WE'RE ON A GOOD TRAJECTORY, IN PART BECAUSE WE HAVE ROBUST COUNSELING SUPPORTS WHERE WE CONTINUE TO BE GRATEFUL FOR HAVING A FULL TIME COUNSELOR AT OUR SCHOOL, AS WELL AS A MILITARY FAMILY LIFE COUNSELOR.

WE HAVE A COUNSELING SPACE ON OUR CAMPUS, WHICH HAS BEEN HUGE.

AND I WANT TO REALLY HIGHLIGHT THE FACT THAT I THINK THE MAIN AREA OF GROWTH IN OUR COUNSELING SUPPORTS HAS BEEN DEVELOPING SOCIAL GROUPS SO THAT WHEN WE IDENTIFY AN INTERPERSONAL THEME CONFLICT PROBLEM AT THE VARIOUS GRADE LEVELS, MRS. FROST CREATES A GROUP AND THE GROUP, YOU KNOW, HAS A CERTAIN NUMBER OF SESSIONS AND THEY WORK ON THOSE SKILLS, WHILE MISSING VERY LITTLE ACADEMIC TIME.

AND WE'VE SEEN GREAT RESULTS AND ENTHUSIASTIC PARTICIPATION FROM STUDENTS IN THOSE GROUPS.

VERY MICRO FONTS FOR SILVER STRAND CELEBRATIONS BECAUSE THERE'S SO MANY.

YEAH, JUST ONE SLIDE.

SO I THINK, AS I MENTIONED, A SENSE OF CULTURE AND TOGETHERNESS AND WHO WE ARE IS SOMETHING THAT WE'RE WORKING VERY HARD ON OUR STAFF. MEMBERS WORK REALLY HARD TO PROMOTE THAT WITHIN THEMSELVES.

SO LOTS OF MEALS TOGETHER.

WE'VE HAD SOME REALLY FUN ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING GIFT EXCHANGES.

AND DO YOU HAVE AN ELF IN YOUR POCKET? GAMES ON CAMPUS AND OTHER WAYS JUST TO HELP OUR STAFF HAVE FUN WITH ONE ANOTHER AND SEE EACH OTHER AS HUMANS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM.

[01:00:01]

WE'RE REALLY GRATEFUL FOR OUR SUPPORT FROM THE PTO AND FROM CORONADO SCHOOLS FOUNDATION.

IT'S ROBUST AND IT'S CONSISTENT.

WE I HAVE APPRECIATED, IN PARTICULAR THE, REPORT FROM INQUEST AND OUR ABILITY TO IDENTIFY QUALITY INDICATORS AND PRACTICE INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING THROUGH BRIEFER WALKTHROUGHS CERTAINLY CAN GET INTO CLASSROOMS MORE.

AND WANT TO.

BUT USING THAT TIME TO GIVE TEACHERS FEEDBACK ON THE INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES THAT THEY ARE DEMONSTRATING, WHICH ALIGN WITH THE BEST PRACTICES OUT THERE IS GRATIFYING.

AND I APPRECIATE THAT TOOL.

WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT SOME OF OUR ANCILLARY PROGRAMS, OUR INNOVATION LAB BAND AND CHOIR PROGRAMS, VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS.

WE HAVE EXTRA FUNDING FOR THOSE THINGS.

THAT'S REALLY HELPFUL.

AND THEN THE SPANISH PROGRAM IS REALLY TAKING OFF.

SO, AND I THINK THERE'S, THERE'S OTHERS, BUT WE'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT.

AND THEN AS FAR AS WORK, ALWAYS WORK TO DO.

RIGHT. SO, I THINK IN CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION, WORKING ON THAT ALIGNMENT AND ARTICULATION, WE'RE GOING TO BE EXCITED TO FORGE NEW FRONTIERS IN SCIENCE INSTRUCTION.

WE'RE PART OF THE DISTRICT'S TEAM OF PEOPLE WORKING ON MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT.

AS FAR AS EQUITY WORK, JUST BEING RESPONSIVE TO THE VARIETY AND SPECTRUM OF NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS AND WHO THEY ARE AND MAKING SURE THAT'S REFLECTED IN OUR SCHOOL. AND WHAT WE PUT ON OUR WALLS AND HOW WE TEACH.

WE KNOW THAT ATTENDANCE AND CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM IS A NATIONAL PROBLEM.

WE'RE HAVING DYNAMIC CONVERSATIONS WITH FAMILIES ABOUT THAT.

AND ALSO RECOGNIZING THAT THERE ARE SOME THERE ARE ILLNESS AND OTHER SYSTEMIC FORCES THAT ARE AT WORK FOR ALL OF US.

SO CONTINUING IN THAT, AND WE TALKED ABOUT SPECIAL EDUCATION, WE'RE CONTINUING TO REFINE USE OF OUR SPACES AND STORAGE AND MAKING SURE THAT TEACHERS HAVE READY ACCESS TO MATERIALS THEY NEED.

WE CAN ALWAYS REFINE COMMUNICATION, AND WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR THE PARENT INVOLVEMENT WE HAVE AT STRAND.

WE KNOW THAT WE NEED TO DO SOME WORK TO MAKE IT MORE POSSIBLE AND ACCESSIBLE FOR OUR FAMILIES TO PARTICIPATE.

AND WITH THAT, I THINK WE HAVE SHARED OUR REPORT AND OUR EXCITEMENT ABOUT OUR SCHOOL AND INVITE YOUR QUESTIONS.

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.

THANK YOU, PRINCIPAL MOORE.

TRUSTEES, DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? YES. PRINCIPAL MOORE, YOU'RE TO BE COMMENDED, YOU AND YOUR STAFF FOR WHAT YOU ACCOMPLISHED AT SILVER STRAND.

I THINK THAT ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE SLIDES IS, OF COURSE, THE SPECIAL EDUCATION SLIDE THAT SHOWED THE LONGITUDINAL IMPROVEMENT IN THE STUDENTS GOING FROM MET OR EXCEEDED IN EITHER THE TEENS OR THE 20% UP TO THE 60S FOR MEETING OR EXCEEDING STANDARDS.

AND SO THAT'S PHENOMENAL.

SO, MY COMMENDATION TO YOU AND ALL YOUR STAFF AND ALSO FOR THE GENERAL POPULATION OF STUDENTS, ANYTIME YOU'RE IN THE 70S OR 80S, THAT'S REALLY TOUGH TO MAINTAIN.

AND WHEN YOU HAVE 25 TO 30% OF YOUR STUDENT BODY IS TURNING OVER EVERY YEAR, THAT'S EVEN MORE CHALLENGING.

SO KUDOS.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I'D LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE AND ADMIRE THE STAFF AND TEAM AT SILVER STRAND.

IT'S A TESTAMENT NOT ONLY TO PRINCIPAL MOORE, BUT TO MISS KEEHAN AND MISS FROST, THAT YOU HAVE A WHOLE CREW BEHIND YOU TODAY.

AND I DID MAKE A PROMISE TO MY FIRST GRADER THAT I WOULD TAKE A PICTURE OF HER TEACHER HERE WITH YOU GUYS.

SO I'M GOING TO DO THAT REAL QUICK.

SO MY FIRST GRADER CAN SEE HER TEAM HERE.

SHE'S GOING TO BE SO HAPPY AND THAT YOU MAKE THOSE COWBOY BOOTS TODAY.

AND HE WAS. THAT'S RIGHT.

IT TURNS OUT AMERICAN FLAG COWBOY BOOTS ARE, IN FACT, RUNNING SHOES.

YOU DIDN'T KNOW? THEY ARE.

AND, BUT YOU YOU MAKE A WARM, INVITING ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL YOUR FAMILIES.

AND THE INCLUSION MODEL THAT WE SEE THERE EVERY DAY COMES HOME AND AS A PARENT OF SILVER STRAND AND THEN VISITING AS A BOARD MEMBER, IT SHOWS.

AND IT'S AMAZING WHAT THESE KIDS ARE GOING TO GO ON TO KNOW WALKING INTO THE BROADER WORLD.

AND IT'S JUST REALLY EXCITING.

AND I WANT TO THANK COACH PERRY, SPECIFICALLY THE WORK YOU DO WITH THE PE PROGRAM AND THE UNSTRUCTURED PLAY ABILITIES AND EVERYTHING ELSE.

JUST ALL OF YOU JUST DO AN AMAZING JOB AND IT SHOWS.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU.

REALLY QUICKLY, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT STOOD OUT FOR ME WAS ON THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY.

[01:05:01]

I THINK THAT'S PAGE 16.

THE COLUMN THAT HAD CONSISTENTLY HIGH MARKS WAS STUDENTS FEEL THAT THEY'RE TREATED WITH RESPECT, WHICH IS, TO ME, VERY IMPORTANT AND IMPACTFUL THAT STUDENTS FEEL LIKE THAT THEY ARE RESPECTED.

I THINK IT MAKES THEIR EXPERIENCE ON CAMPUS, MEANINGFUL.

AND HOPEFULLY THEY ARE ABLE TO TO SHOW THAT TO OTHER STUDENTS AND TO OTHER ADULTS.

I ALSO NOTED ON THE TWO SLIDES WHERE WE HAD THE CAST AND THE CAST ELA AND CAST MATH THAT YOU MENTIONED, THAT THERE WERE, ACE TEACHERS THAT YOU HAVE. HOW MANY ACE TEACHERS DO YOU HAVE ON CAMPUS? ARE THEY PART TIME, FULL TIME? RIGHT. SO WE HAVE A FULL TIME READING SPECIALIST.

AND ELLEN CODY, WE HAVE A PART TIME READING SPECIALIST AND SUPPORTER FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS IN MARTHA PROTZMAN.

AND THEN WE HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF COACH PERRY, WHOSE SUPERPOWERS ARE NOT JUST IN PE BUT IN MATH, PUSHING OUT AND DOING SOME PARALLEL TEACHING WITH OUR FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADES, WHERE WE HAVE.

AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE DATA, IDENTIFIED THE MOST IMPORTANT NEED IN TERMS OF PREPARING STUDENTS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HELPING SOLIDIFY THOSE MATH SKILLS.

WONDERFUL. THANK YOU. OH, SORRY.

AND CHRISTY CHAP, OF COURSE, WHO'S THE MATH INTERVENTION TEACHER? WE HAVE HER HALF TIME AT SILVER STRAND AND HALF TIME AT VILLAGE.

AND SHE'S BEEN AN INCREDIBLE RESOURCE.

I'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE IN THE MORNING WHEN THERE'S LOTS OF KIDS COMING TO GET BREAKFAST.

CAN YOU SHARE SOME FEEDBACK FROM STUDENTS ON DO THEY COME FOR SOCIALIZATION? DO THEY COME FOR BREAKFAST? IS IT BOTH LIKE, HOW IS THAT MORNING BEEN GOING? IF WE'RE BEING COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT, IF YOU TAKE THE BUS TO SILVER STRAND YOU ARE ENFORCED BREAKFAST MODE.

BUT IT'S A PERK AND, IT'S COMMUNITY BUILDING AND IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE WITH YOUR FRIENDS AS WELL AS SOME STAFF MEMBERS IN THE MORNING.

IT'S BEEN, I THINK, A NICE SOFT START TO SCHOOL.

I WOULD SAY ABOUT HALF OF THE PARTICIPANTS ARE BUS RIDERS AND THEN HALF COME VOLUNTARILY FOR BREAKFAST.

AND WE HAVE WE RELY ON SOME OF OUR CLASSIFIED AND CERTIFICATED STAFF TO SUPERVISE BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, MEAL TIME SUPERVISION IN AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL REQUIRES HANDS ON DECK.

AND SO WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE THAT, A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WONDERFUL. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL BRIEF.

SO YOU HAVE THE MOST SOCIOECONOMICALLY DIVERSE STUDENT POPULATION AT YOUR SCHOOL.

YOU HAVE THE LARGE MILITARY, TRANSIENT POPULATION.

YOU DEAL WITH ABSENTEEISM THAT'S, EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE DEALING WITH.

AND YET YOUR STUDENTS CONSISTENTLY DO SUPER WELL ON STANDARDIZED TESTS.

SO YOU'RE WORKING SOME MAGIC DOWN THERE.

YOUR SCHOOL IS ALSO A WONDERFUL, HAPPY PLACE.

EVERY TIME I GO THERE, I REALLY ENJOY COMING DOWN THERE.

ONE THING YOU DO THAT I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYWHERE ELSE IS YOU HAVE A CALENDAR ON THE WALL.

SO, LIKE, AT YOUR FRIDAY, AT YOUR FLAGPOLE CEREMONIES, YOU CAN SEE THE UPCOMING EVENTS.

SO FOR A LOW TECH NONSOCIAL MEDIA PERSON LIKE ME CAN ACTUALLY SEE WHAT'S GOING ON.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I'M GOING TO GIVE PTO CREDIT FOR THAT.

THANK YOU. QUICK QUESTION BACK TO THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY DATA.

YOU DID MENTION THAT THE MEANINGFUL PARTICIPATION IS AN AREA OF GROWTH, AND THOSE NUMBERS WERE LOW.

AND I WAS JUST CURIOUS BECAUSE IT SAYS THE QUESTION, ARE YOU GIVEN A CHANCE TO HELP DECIDE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES OR RULES? DO YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS AS TO HOW YOU WOULD ENGAGE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS IN MEANINGFUL PARTICIPATION? YEAH. SO I MEAN, SO THAT WAS MY PERSONAL PROFESSIONAL GOAL FOR THE YEAR.

AND WE HAVEN'T ANCHORED FOR LIFE PROGRAM THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH, OUR MILITARY STUDENTS.

AND THERE ARE PARENT ADVISORS RUNNING THAT.

WE BROUGHT ON SAFE SCHOOL AMBASSADORS, WHICH IS A, YOU KNOW, AN, ANTI-BULLYING AND UPSTANDER PROGRAM.

WE ALSO HAVE THESE STUDENT LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES IN FIFTH GRADE, CURBSIDE HOST, KINDER BUDDIES, GUARDIAN, GUARDIANS OF THE GARDEN, ETC.. WHAT WE HAD IN THE PAST THAT WE HAVEN'T BROUGHT BACK, AND I THINK THIS WOULD BE A PROJECT IS STUDENT COUNCIL AND I UNDERSTAND VILLAGE HAS BROUGHT THAT BACK.

I'M WANTING IT TO BE DEMOCRATIC WITHOUT NECESSARILY HAVING AN ELECTION THAT STUDENTS DON'T MAKE.

SO I THINK MORE EXPLORATION THERE ABOUT HOW WE CAN BRING OUR STUDENTS IN TO PLANNING AND DETERMINING ACTIVITIES, BUT MAKING SURE THAT THERE ARE JUST OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERYONE TO BE INVOLVED AND IT'S NOT EXCLUSIVE.

SO THAT'S THE CHALLENGE.

GREAT. WE'LL WORK ON THAT.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

[01:10:02]

ANYTHING ELSE? THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THANK YOU. AT THIS TIME WITH NO OBJECTION. I'D LIKE TO DO A TEN MINUTE COMFORT BREAK.

OKAY, WE'RE ADJOURNED FOR TEN MINUTES.

AND WE ARE BACK.

MOVING ON TO ITEM 6.3 LEARNING DEPARTMENT REPORT.

[6.3 Learning Department Report: Senior Director of Learning, Dr. Megan Battle]

SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT.

I KNOW THE GOVERNING BOARD AND COMMUNITY HAVE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW THE LEARNING DEPARTMENT REPORT UPDATE, ON THE LCAP MID-YEAR MONITORING. THIS IS A STATE REQUIREMENT THAT WE PROVIDE AN UPDATE.

DOCTOR BATTLE IS HERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.

DOCTOR BATTLE. WONDERFUL.

GOOD EVENING. TRUSTEES.

AS SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER STATED, PER A NEW SENATE BILL OR ADDITION TO SENATE BILL 114 THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WE ARE NOW REQUIRED TO HAVE THIS, MID-YEAR MONITORING REPORT.

IT WILL BE A REQUIREMENT ONGOING AS WELL.

THE REQUIREMENT IS TO HAVE A REPORT TO THE BOARD ON OR BEFORE FEBRUARY 28TH.

LOOKING AT OUR CURRENT LCAP AND PROVIDING ANY AVAILABLE MID-YEAR OUTCOME DATA RELATED TO ALL OF THE METRICS WITHIN THE LCAP.

ANY AVAILABLE MID-YEAR EXPENDITURES WHICH DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT SALAMANCA POPULATED IN THE DOCUMENT AS WELL.

ON ALL OF OUR ACTIONS FOR OUR CURRENT LCAP.

SO I KNOW YOU'VE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW OUR MONITORING PLAN WITH THE AVAILABLE DATA THAT WE HAVE TO DATE.

YOU DID NOTICE THAT SOME FIELDS STATED THAT IT WILL BE UNTIL THE SPRING, WHEN WE HAVE AN UPDATE FOR THAT SPECIFIC METRIC.

AND THEN THERE WAS ALSO COMMENTARY ON THINGS THAT WEWERE DOING TOWARDS OUR ACTIONS FOR EACH ONE OF OUR THREE GOALS. YES, PLEASE.

THANK YOU. SO AS YOU REFERENCED AND THIS IS SORT OF A META PHILOSOPHICAL QUESTION, AND IT'S LARGELY FOR US AS TRUSTEES, AS REPRESENTATIVES TO KIND OF GATHER DATA FROM YOU, OUR PROFESSIONAL STAFF.

AND AS YOU REFERENCED, THIS IS A NEW STATE REQUIREMENT.

WE GET THESE A LOT.

I CALL THEM UNFUNDED MANDATES, RIGHT.

THEY TELL US TO DO MORE AND DON'T GIVE US ANY MORE FUNDING.

THEY JUST KEEP ADDING TO OUR PLATES AND YOUR PLATE.

AND SO MY QUESTION FOR YOU IS, AND THIS CAN BE AN ONGOING CONVERSATION, AND I'D LIKE US ALL TO KIND OF CONSIDER AND TALK ABOUT IT, BUT I GET TO REPRESENT US AT THE DELEGATE ASSEMBLY. WE ALL HAVE SEATS AT THAT TABLE WHEN WE GO TO SCHOOL BOARD, ASSOCIATION CONFERENCES AND OTHER THINGS.

IS THERE A VALUE ADD TO YOU AS THE DIRECTOR OF LEARNING OR TO OUR DISTRICT BY UPDATING THIS REPORT MIDYEAR? THAT YOU CAN COMFORTABLY ARTICULATE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER AT THIS TIME, OR MAYBE PUT IT IN YOUR HAT AND KIND OF GIVE IT SOME THOUGHT, BECAUSE I THINK IT'S AN IMPORTANT QUESTION AS WE NOT ONLY AS WE GO INTO AN ELECTION YEAR AND LIKE VOTE.

RIGHT, BUT ALSO AS WE GET A CHANCE TO REPRESENT YOU AND OUR OTHER CONSTITUENTS IN SACRAMENTO AS TRUSTEES.

BECAUSE I'M, I APPRECIATE ALL THE TIME AND EFFORT THAT WENT INTO THIS.

IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS QUITE A LOT, BUT WHY? AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER THAT.

WHY? FIRST CAME TO MY MIND.

OKAY. AND WE CAN HAVE THAT CONVERSATION OFFLINE.

BUT THIS IS WHAT I'M WONDERING WHEN THEY GIVE US THIS STUFF.

YEAH. SO FOR ME PERSONALLY, YES, THERE'S A LOT MORE TIME THAT I HAD TO SPEND TO FOR THIS REQUIREMENT, BUT, I FELT IT WAS VALUABLE FOR ME TO DIG IN A LITTLE EARLIER THAN I TYPICALLY WOULD IN MY LCAP WRITING TIMELINE.

SO I STARTED DOING THIS BACK IN LATE OCTOBER, WITH OUR CURRENT AVAILABLE DATA, AND SO I COULD SLOWLY CHIP AWAY AT IT KNOWING, OKAY, FEBRUARY.

BUT, FOR ME, THE FEBRUARY DEADLINE IS A LITTLE LATE BECAUSE I'M STARTING TO NOW LOOK AT OUR NEW LCAP, AND THIS NEW ITERATION IS ANOTHER NEW TEMPLATE.

SO AS YOU'RE ADVOCATING AT THE STATE, THIS WILL BE THE FIFTH TEMPLATE, CHANGE THAT WE'VE HAD, IN OUR LCAP SEASON, THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. SO IT'S ANOTHER NEW TEMPLATE, BUT IT'S ALSO OUR NEXT THREE YEAR PLAN.

AND SO BEING ABLE TO HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THOUGHTFULLY REFLECT ON INITIATIVES, THINGS THAT MAYBE WE'RE LOOKING AT TAKING OUT BECAUSE WE'VE MET THAT GOAL OR, YOU KNOW, HOW I MIGHT WANT TO CHANGE A METRIC? SO FOR ME PERSONALLY, IT WAS VALUE ADDED BECAUSE LOOKING AHEAD AT OUR NEXT THREE YEAR PLAN, THAT HELPED MY WHEELS START TURNING.

[01:15:09]

AND I HAVE NOTES AND SO I THINK IT'LL MAKE OUR NEXT PLAN MORE MEANINGFUL.

THEY ALSO ADDED A NEW MANDATE, WHICH YOU'LL SEE IN JUNE, WHICH IS AN ANNUAL UPDATE TO THE LCAP PLAN.

SO YOU'LL SEE THAT IN JUNE.

AND THEN, IN THE 25, 26 SCHOOL YEAR, IT'LL BE EMBEDDED IN ANOTHER NEW LCAP TEMPLATE.

AND SO THIS WILL BE ON TOP OF THAT.

TO ME, THAT'S WHERE THE REDUNDANCY IS.

SO, A LOT OF THE DATA I PUT IN HERE IS GOING TO BE COPY AND PASTED OVER INTO THE ANNUAL PLAN, IN ADDITION TO METRICS THAT I DON'T HAVE YET.

BUT A MID-YEAR PLAN AND THEN AN ANNUAL PLAN, THERE'S SO THERE'S WAY TOO MUCH OVERLAP.

AND FOR ME, THAT'S WHERE THE REDUNDANCY OF THE WORKLOAD LIES.

[INAUDIBLE] THANK YOU. I TURN IT OFF, I TURN IT ON, I TURN IT BACK OFF. OKAY.

DOCTOR BATTLE ON GOAL THREE.

IT SAYS THAT THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY IS ADMINISTERED EVERY TWO YEARS.

I'M SEEING THAT INFORMATION IS SO VALUABLE, ESPECIALLY WITH WHAT PRINCIPAL MOORE JUST TALKED ABOUT AS HAVING SOME OF THAT STUDENT FEEDBACK IMPACT HER GOALS. IS THERE AN OPTION TO ADMINISTER IT EVERY YEAR, OR HAVE WE LOOKED AT OTHER WAYS OF SURVEYING STUDENTS EVERY OTHER YEAR OR.

NO, THANK YOU FOR THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.

AT THIS POINT, WE ARE STICKING TO THE STATE, TIMELINE OF EVERY TWO YEARS, BUT WE HAVE HAD DISCUSSIONS ON WHAT OTHER TOOLS WE CAN USE ANNUALLY FOR OUR TEACHERS, BECAUSE WE DID HAVE ALL OF OUR STAFF TAKE THE HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY, THE STAFF VERSION, AND THEN OUR PARENTS ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THE PARENT SURVEY THIS LAST YEAR. AND SO, IN THE NEXT YEAR WHEN WE GIVE IT AGAIN, WE DO WANT TO GIVE IT TO ALL THREE OF THOSE PARTNERS.

BUT SOMETHING THAT WE'RE PILOTING RIGHT NOW AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL IS A UNIVERSAL SCREENER FOR, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, MENTAL HEALTH.

IT'S CALLED THE SABERS TOOL.

AND SO WE HAVE A SMALL NUMBER OF STUDENTS, THAT WE'RE PILOTING THAT TOOL WITH.

BUT THAT'S IT'S SIMILAR TO HEALTHY KIDS WE'LL GLEAN SIMILAR INFORMATION.

BUT WE'RE BEING PROACTIVE.

SO BY GIVING IT AT THE BEGINNING OF A SCHOOL YEAR OR WHEN, IT'S SUMMERTIME AND WE HAVE A LOT OF NEW FAMILIES MOVING IN, AND WE MEET WITH THEM TO DO THE MATH PLACEMENT, ASSESSMENT, FOR EXAMPLE, THIS IS A SCREENER.

WE COULD GIVE THEM JUST TO GAUGE ANY RED FLAGS AND MAKE SURE WE ALLOCATE COUNSELING RESOURCES AND OTHER RESOURCES IN A PROACTIVE MANNER RATHER THAN THAN REACTIVE.

SO WE ARE LOOKING AT OTHER TOOLS LOCALLY, THAT WE CAN USE MORE FREQUENTLY.

GREAT. THANK YOU. [INAUDIBLE] WE REALLY TOOK A DEEP DIVE INTO THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY LAST WEEK.

AND I AM NOT A STATISTICIAN.

I AM NOT A SOCIOLOGIST.

BUT WHAT THEY WERE TELLING ME WAS THEY DON'T FIND WHILE THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY TO THESE SCIENTISTS, IS TRYING TO GLEAN REALLY USEFUL INFORMATION, IT'S A SINGLE POINT IN TIME ON A SINGLE DAY BY A SELF-SELECTED GROUP.

SO IT'S NOT SUPER RELIABLE DATA IN TERMS OF ONGOING KIND OF SCOPE AND BREADTH OF OVERALL WELL-BEING OR OVERALL FEELING, YOU KNOW, COULD BE I GOT IN TROUBLE YESTERDAY FOR KICKING SUZY ON THE PLAYGROUND, AND I'M MAD AND I'M GONNA PUT ALL ONES OR FIVES OR I'M PUTTING FIVES BECAUSE I GOT STRAIGHT A'S.

AND IT'S JUST IT'S LITERALLY ONCE EVERY TWO YEARS FILL IN THE BUBBLES.

AND SO IT'S NOT SUPER RELIABLE.

WHEREAS WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WITH THE SABERS ON AN ONGOING BASIS SOUNDS LIKE A MUCH MORE COMPREHENSIVE AND STILL MINIMALLY INTRUSIVE TOOL.

SO JUST SOME WARNING WITH THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY FROM PEOPLE THAT ARE A LOT SMARTER THAN ME.

AND THE OTHER BENEFIT OF THE SABERS TOOL IS THAT IT'S A THERE'S A K-12 VERSION, SO THERE'S A GRADE LEVEL VERSION THAT'S APPROPRIATE, AGE APPROPRIATE, FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL VERSUS JUST THE GRADES THAT ARE REQUIRED FOR THE HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY, WHICH WE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND AND DID MORE GRADE LEVELS ON THE HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY.

THIS LAST ITERATION, AND JUST IN THE PREVIOUS BOARD DID ASK FOR THAT TO EXPAND BECAUSE WE WANTED MORE DATA ON

[01:20:05]

HOW OUR PEOPLE ARE DOING AND FEELING AND TRYING TO GET MORE COMMUNICATION AND AND TOUCHSTONES OF WHERE PEOPLE ARE AND WHERE WE CAN BETTER SERVE OUR COMMUNITY.

AND SO WE CERTAINLY WANT TO USE IT, BUT JUST NOT PUT TOO MUCH RELIANCE ON IT FOR MY POSITION.

REAL QUICK I'M GOING TO ASK, DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEM 6.3? OKAY. THANK YOU.

ITEM 6.4 LEARNING DEPARTMENT REPORT.

[6.4 Learning Department Report: Senior Director of Learning, Dr. Megan Battle]

JUST SWITCH OUT.

THANK YOU. MADAM. MADAM PRESIDENT.

IT'S THE DOCTOR BATTLE SHOW, THIS EVENING.

DOCTOR BATTLE IS AVAILABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AND PROVIDE THE BOARD WITH SOME INFORMATION ON THE DASHBOARD.

DOCTOR BATTLE. GOOD EVENING.

TRUSTEES. MY REPORT THIS EVENING PROVIDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE RECENTLY RELEASED 2023 CALIFORNIA SCHOOL DASHBOARD.

IT WAS RELEASED ON DECEMBER 15TH.

RIGHT BEFORE WINTER BREAK.

I KNOW YOU'VE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW, SOME OF THESE SLIDES LOOK FAMILIAR TO LAST YEAR'S REPORT, PROVIDING REALLY THE BACKGROUND AND AN OVERVIEW OF THE TOOL.

SO, KAMI IF WE COULD SKIP.

AHEAD TO THE THIRD SLIDE.

SO, JUST A REMINDER, THERE ARE 11 REQUIRED INDICATORS ON THE DASHBOARD THAT MEASURE THE PERFORMANCE OF LEAS.

AND THEN EACH INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL WITHIN OUR DISTRICT, THERE ARE SIX STATE MEASURES THAT ALLOW FOR COMPARISONS ACROSS SCHOOLS AND DISTRICTS.

YOU CAN SEE THAT HIGHLIGHTED BY THE BULLETS IN THE BLUE BOX.

THESE ARE THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE INDICATOR, CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM, COLLEGE CAREER READINESS, ENGLISH, LEARNER PROGRESS, HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION RATE AND SUSPENSION RATE.

SCHOOLS AND DISTRICTS RECEIVE ONE OF FIVE STATUS LEVELS ON EACH OF THE SIX STATE MEASURES.

AND THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WE ARE NOW MOVING BACK FOR ALMOST ALL OF THE MEASURES, TO THE SPEEDOMETER WITH ALL THE COLORS OF THE RAINBOW.

OKAY, OUR NEXT SLIDE.

THIS IS THE ONE INDICATOR THAT IS STATUS ONLY THIS YEAR.

SO ALL OF OUR OTHER INDICATORS WE HAVE A COMPARISON NOW GROWTH AND CHANGE TO LAST SCHOOL YEAR.

SO THAT IS EQUIVALENT TO OUR COLOR INDICATOR ON THE SPEEDOMETER.

BUT OUR COLLEGE CAREER READINESS INDICATOR IS STATUS ONLY FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

AND IT WILL STILL BE THE MONOCHROME CELL PHONE BARS.

YES. OKAY.

NEXT. SO THERE ARE FIVE LOCAL MEASURES THAT ARE ALSO REPORTED ON THE DASHBOARD.

EACH MEASURE IS LOCALLY EVALUATED ACCORDING TO THE RUBRICS FROM THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF ED AND THEIR INSTRUCTIONS.

AN ANNUAL REPORT IS PROVIDED TO THE GOVERNING BOARD EVERY JUNE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ADOPTION OF THE LCAP.

SO YOU MAY RECALL, BACK IN JUNE, I DID A REPORT TO, TO THIS BOARD, ABOUT OUR LOCAL INDICATORS.

AND WHEN YOU DO LOOK ON THE DASHBOARD FOR ALL OF OUR INDICATORS, BECAUSE THAT REPORT WAS DONE AND THEN I SUBMIT IT IN OCTOBER, TO A STATE DATABASE.

ALL OF IT SAYS MET.

SO IF IT SAID NOT MET, THAT MEANS WE DIDN'T SUBMIT IT ON TIME OR.

YEAH, BUT IT'LL SAY MET.

ALL RIGHT. WE CAN SKIP THE NEXT SLIDE.

I ALREADY TALKED ABOUT THE NEW LOOK.

SO THIS IS A LANDING PAGE AN OVERVIEW OF THE 11 INDICATORS FOR CORONADO UNIFIED AND THE OVERALL PERFORMANCE LEVEL FOR EACH INDICATOR.

WHILE THIS IS A UNIFIED REPORT, YOU CAN LOOK AT THESE INDICATORS FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL SITE AS WELL.

CLICKING ON EACH INDICATOR WILL NAVIGATE YOU TO A DEEPER ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE LEVEL AND THE PERFORMANCE OF SIGNIFICANT SUBGROUPS FOR THAT INDICATOR AREA.

AND SO I DID HAVE A SLIDE FOR EACH INDICATOR.

SO OUR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE INDICATOR SHOWS HOW WELL STUDENTS ARE MEETING GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS IN ELA AND MATH, AS DETERMINED BY THE CAASPP.

ONLY STUDENTS IN GRADES THREE THROUGH EIGHT AND 11 ARE REFLECTED BY THIS INDICATOR.

SO HALF OF OUR STUDENTS ARE REFLECTED ON THIS INDICATOR BECAUSE IT'S CAASPP.

SO OVERALL IN LA, CUSD WAS BLUE IN THE VERY HIGH RANGE, MAINTAINING OUR PERFORMANCE LEVELS.

AND THEN IN MATH, WE WERE IN THE HIGH RANGE GREEN.

WE DID INCREASE BY 3.4 POINTS, BUT NOT ENOUGH OF A CHANGE TO PUSH US QUITE OVER TO THE BLUE.

BUT WE DID SEE A SLIGHT INCREASE.

AND THEN IF YOU CLICK ON VIEW MORE DETAILS WHEN YOU'RE ON THE DASHBOARD, YOU CAN EVEN DIG A LITTLE DEEPER INTO EACH SUBGROUP.

[01:25:07]

AND SO PRETEND WE CLICKED ON VIEW MORE DETAILS AND THEN YOU CAN GET TO THIS PAGE.

AND THEN YOU CAN EVEN CLICK ON DIFFERENT SUBGROUPS IF WE GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

AND THEN YOU CAN SEE VERY SPECIFICALLY WHERE ALL OF OUR SUBGROUPS LANDED.

I INCLUDED THIS SLIDE TO SHOW YOU THAT WE DO HAVE A NUMBER OF SUBGROUPS THAT DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH STUDENTS, TO MAKE THAT DATA RELIABLE TO INCLUDE IN THE DASHBOARD ALGORITHMS. SO THAT'S WHY THEY HAVE NO PERFORMANCE COLOR.

AND SO YOU'LL SEE THIS TREND FOR ALL OF OUR INDICATORS.

YOU CAN JUST DIG DEEPER AND DEEPER INTO EACH ONE.

SO FOR MATH.

AND SEE, WE HAD NO STUDENTS IN THE ORANGE OR RED RANGE WHICH IS TO BE CELEBRATED.

AND WE KNOW OUR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES.

THE LAST ITERATION OF THE DASHBOARD WHEN IT WAS PREVIOUSLY COLORS.

WE WERE TYPICALLY IN THE ORANGE RANGE WITH OUR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES.

OUR ENGLISH LEARNERS HAVE MADE TREMENDOUS PROGRESS.

YOU'LL SEE THAT ON THE LP INDICATOR AS WELL.

SO A LOT TO CELEBRATE WITH OUR OUR MATH AND ELA PERFORMANCE.

ALL RIGHT. SPEAKING OF ENGLISH LEARNERS, HERE IS OUR LP INDICATOR.

AND YOU CAN SEE THE PERCENTAGES IN THE GRAPHS COMPARED TO LAST YEAR.

AND WE ARE IN THE BLUE RANGE SO INCREASED BY 18.2%.

AND SO IT'S MEASURING WHETHER OR NOT STUDENTS ARE MAKING PROGRESS TOWARDS ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACQUISITION.

AND THEN OUR CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM INDICATOR.

SO AS PRINCIPAL MOORE INDICATED, THIS IS A GROWTH AREA FOR EVERY SCHOOL IN LA ACROSS THE STATE.

WE'RE SEEING, A CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM IN THE ORANGE RANGE.

AND FOR SOME OF OUR SUBGROUPS AT SOME OF OUR SCHOOL SITES IN THE RED RANGE, FOR ANY SUBGROUP THAT'S IN THE RED RANGE, FOR ANY INDICATOR, THEN I HAVE TO INCLUDE A SPECIFIC, GOAL OR ACTION WITHIN OUR LCAP.

SO WHEN WE, REVIEW THE LCAP LATER IN THE SPRING, YOU WILL SEE SOME SPECIFIC INDICATORS CALLED OUT.

AND IT'S MOSTLY ON CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM.

AND THEN THERE'S ONE SUBGROUP AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR SUSPENSION RATE, THAT WAS IN THE RED.

AND SO WE WILL HAVE A SPECIFIC ACTION ITEM, FOR THOSE SUBGROUPS.

AND THEN OUR GRADUATION RATE.

ONCE AGAIN. WHILE WE HAD A SLIGHT DECLINE, WE STILL MAINTAIN IN THE VERY HIGH RANGE BLUE FOR ALL STUDENTS ON THE ON THE FAR LEFT.

AND THEN SUSPENSION RATE OVERALL FOR ALL STUDENTS, WE OUR SUSPENSION RATE INCREASED SLIGHTLY, WHICH IS NOT A GOOD THING.

SO ALMOST TO 1%.

PUTTING US IN THE THE YELLOW RANGE.

AND AS YOU SEE, STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES ARE IN THE RED RANGE.

AND SO WE WILL HAVE TO DO A DEEPER ANALYSIS OF THAT.

AND YOU'LL SEE THAT IN OUR LCAP.

AND THEN COLLEGE CAREER INDICATOR.

YOU SEE THAT NOW THAT WE ARE LOOKING AT OUR STATUS ONLY, OUR ARE NOW NEW BASELINE FOR THE DASHBOARD FOR THE CCI IS, IN THE VERY HIGH RANGE.

SO 70.5% OF OUR STUDENTS WERE CONSIDERED PREPARED BASED ON THE MEASURES OF THE COLLEGE CAREER READINESS INDICATOR, WHICH IF WE GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, THERE'S A LOT ON HERE.

BUT ON THE FAR LEFT SIDE ARE THE DIFFERENT WAYS AND CATEGORIES THAT A STUDENT CAN BE CONSIDERED PREPARED ON THE COLLEGE CAREER INDICATOR. SO FOR EXAMPLE, IF WE LOOK AT THE SECOND ROW, THE ORANGE, A STUDENT COULD MEET, THE PREPARED STATUS BY COMPLETING A THROUGH G REQUIREMENTS AND HAVING A C MINUS OR HIGHER IN ONE COLLEGE COURSE.

SO IF THEY DID THAT, THEY DOESN'T MATTER ABOUT ANY OF THE OTHER INDICATORS.

IF THEY DID THAT THEY WOULD BE CONSIDERED PREPARED.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS OF WAYS THAT STUDENTS CAN MEET, THE COLLEGE CAREER INDICATOR.

AND KEEP IN MIND WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT THIS, IT IS DUPLICATED.

[01:30:02]

SO THERE MIGHT BE STUDENTS THAT THESE PERCENTAGES REFLECT THAT THEY'RE IN MULTIPLE CATEGORIES.

BUT WE CAN ALSO DIG DOWN DEEPER, TO EACH SUBGROUP IN A SIMILAR CHART.

SO MY I PREPARED THIS MORE FOR INTERNAL USE AND OUR REFLECTION BUT ALSO FOR THIS PRESENTATION.

BUT I'M GOING TO GO BACK TO THE EXCEL SPREADSHEET AND THEN LOOK AT MAKE ONE FOR EACH OF OUR SIGNIFICANT SUBGROUPS, BECAUSE WE WANT TO LOOK AT ANY TRENDS WE'RE SEEING. WHERE COULD WE HAVE MOVED THE NEEDLE JUST A LITTLE BIT AND REALLY PUSHED MORE STUDENTS INTO THE PREPARED CATEGORY FOR EACH OF OUR SUBGROUPS? AND THEN ON THE HORIZON TO BE INCLUDED IN THE COLLEGE CAREER INDICATOR IS, A CAASPP SCORES.

SO OUR SCIENCE TEST SCORES AND THEN STUDENTS THAT PARTICIPATE IN INTERNSHIPS WORK BASED LEARNING.

YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR A LOT ABOUT THAT, IN THE FUTURE.

AND THAT REALLY BRINGS US TO THE END.

I THINK IF WE GO TO THE VERY LAST SLIDE.

OH, NOT THE THANK YOU ONE, BUT THE ONE RIGHT BEFORE.

YEAH. I JUST WANT TO REITERATE THAT THIS IS ONE COMPONENT OF BUILDING THAT THROUGH LINE OF, YOU KNOW, LOOKING AT THINGS FROM A 30,000 FOOT VIEW AND THEN REALLY DRILLING DOWN TO EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT THROUGH OUR MTSS PROCESS.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, THROUGH ALL THESE, YES, SOME ARE REQUIRED, BUT ALL THESE REPORTS, WE REALLY ARE, THOUGHTFUL, IN ENSURING THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT THE SAME THREE GOALS, WHETHER IT'S A PRINCIPAL SITE PLAN OR THE LCAP OR THE LONG RANGE PLAN, AND THEN THROUGH THE LENS OF THE DASHBOARD AND OTHER REPORTS, BUT REALLY THOUGHTFUL IN OUR THROUGH LINE, MAKING SURE THAT, WE'RE CONNECTING THE DOTS.

AND THAT CONCLUDES MY DASHBOARD BRIEF UPDATE.

THANK YOU.

AT THIS POINT, DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEM 6.4? TRUSTEES. ANY COMMENTS? ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, DR. BATTLE.

[6.5 Learning Department Report: Senior Director of Learning, Dr. Megan Battle]

MOVING ON TO ITEM 6.5 LEARNING DEPARTMENT REPORT.

SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT.

I'LL GIVE HER TIME TO MAKE HER WAY BACK UP TO THE.

YEAH. DR.

BATTLE, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

DR. BATTLE IS AVAILABLE TO INTRODUCE, IN THIS REPORT, OUR NEW ETHNIC STUDIES GRADUATION REQUIREMENT UPDATE HOW CUSD IS ADDRESSING THIS NEW GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.

AND SOME EXCITING UPDATES FOR THE COMMUNITY AND THE BOARD.

DR. BATTLE. WONDERFUL.

I AM REALLY EXCITED. I KNOW PRINCIPAL MOLINA, HAD TO LEAVE, BUT, I DO WANT TO COMMEND HER STAFF AND, MY DEPARTMENT. IT WAS A COLLABORATION BETWEEN MULTIPLE PEOPLE TO REALLY DEVELOP OUR VISION FOR WHAT THE NEW REQUIREMENT WILL LOOK LIKE HERE IN CORONADO UNIFIED.

SO THANK YOU TO MISS MOLINA AND AND HER STAFF AS WELL.

ALL RIGHT.

SO, THE THIS REPORT REALLY DIGS INTO FIRST THE REQUIREMENTS WITH ASSEMBLY BILL 101, THE NEW GRADUATION REQUIREMENT. AND THEN I WILL, PROVIDE A PREVIEW FOR YOU OF WHAT OUR PLAN IN CORONADO UNIFIED AT THE HIGH SCHOOL IS FOR STUDENTS TO MEET THIS NEW GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.

SO THIS SLIDE, I KNOW YOU'VE HAD A CHANCE TO REVIEW IT.

IT REALLY COVERS THE BACKGROUND FOR ASSEMBLY BILL 101.

THE GIST OF IT IS THAT IT'S THE COMPLETION OF AT LEAST ONE, A ONE SEMESTER COURSE, WHICH AT OUR HIGH SCHOOL IS NINE WEEKS IN ETHNIC STUDIES.

AND IT HAS TO BE MEET VERY SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS WITHIN THE BILL.

AND NOW WITHIN CODE, THE STUDIES COURSE MUST BE OFFERED, STARTING WITH THE 25, 26 SCHOOL YEAR.

AND I'LL TALK IN A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHY WE'RE DOING IT A YEAR EARLY, NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

AND THERE'S MULTIPLE OPTIONS FOR DISTRICTS TO CONSIDER, IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENT.

SO THAT THIRD BULLET DOWN, A- A DISTRICT COULD USE A COURSE BASED ON THE MODEL CURRICULUM AND ETHNIC STUDIES.

THAT WAS DEVELOPED BY THE COMMISSION.

AND SO I DO HAVE LINKS ON ONE OF THE SLIDES TO THE MODEL CURRICULUM.

IT'S I'M PROBABLY OVERGENERALIZING, BUT IT'S CLOSE TO A 400 TO 500 PAGE DOCUMENT BECAUSE IT'S A LONG

[01:35:04]

SYLLABUS AND COURSE OUTLINE FOR HUNDREDS OF COURSES OUT THERE, THAT ARE CURRENTLY BEING OFFERED, AND VETTED.

SO THAT'S ONE OPTION.

THE SECOND OPTION IS AN EXISTING ETHNIC STUDIES COURSE THAT WE ALREADY PROVIDE, WHICH WE DON'T.

SO THAT'S NOT AN OPTION FOR US.

OPTION C, AN ETHNIC STUDIES COURSE TAUGHT AS PART OF A COURSE THAT HAS BEEN APPROVED AS MEETING THE A THROUGH G REQUIREMENTS FOR UC, CSU AND THEN THE LAST ONE A LOCALLY DEVELOPED KIND OF FROM THE GROUND UP ORGANIC ETHNIC STUDIES COURSE.

THAT'S APPROVED BY THE GOVERNING BOARD.

THE CDE IS PROVIDING SOME FUNDING TO DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE, TO SUPPORT CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, PROFESSIONAL LEARNING, AND ALSO TO PURCHASE MATERIALS, FOR THE COURSE.

SO OUR ALLOCATION WAS $27,000.

OKAY. SO OUR TIMELINE OF IMPLEMENTATION.

SO LAST YEAR AND AND EVEN THE YEAR BEFORE.

WE BEGAN TO REVIEW THE LEGISLATION.

WE HAVE BEEN REVIEWING THE MODEL CURRICULUM THAT'S OUT THERE THAT LONG DOCUMENT WITH ALL THE SAMPLES, EXISTING APPROVED A THROUGH G ETHNIC STUDIES COURSE.

SO IN A PORTAL THAT YOU SEE, CSU HAS, WE CAN SEARCH FOR, AN EXISTING, ALREADY APPROVED COURSE, AND IT TELLS YOU WHERE IT'S BEING TAUGHT.

IT GIVES YOU A COURSE OUTLINE.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE THEY USING? AND SO WE CAN MODEL IT AFTER SOMETHING THAT'S ALREADY EXISTING AND THEN TWEAK IT TO MEET OUR OWN LOCAL NEEDS.

AND THEN COLLABORATION WITH SCHOOLS ACROSS THE BRIDGE.

SO I KNOW PRINCIPAL MOLINA AND COUNSELOR RENO, HAVE BEEN ALREADY MEETING AND CONTACTING OTHER SCHOOLS ACROSS THE BRIDGE THAT ARE, TEACHING ETHNIC STUDIES.

SO THIS HAS BEEN OUR PLANNING YEAR.

AND I'LL GET TO OUR PLAN IN A MOMENT.

NEXT YEAR, IS A PILOT YEAR FOR US.

AND SO WE DO PLAN TO REQUIRE ALL FRESHMEN TO TAKE THIS COURSE.

AND I'LL GET TO THAT IN A MOMENT.

BUT THERE'S SOME DIFFERENT WAYS THAT THE REQUIREMENT CAN BE MET.

BUT ALL FRESHMEN.

NEXT SCHOOL YEAR WILL BE ENROLLED IN A COURSE, AND THEN 25, 26 IS OUR OPERATIONAL YEAR.

AND I'LL TALK TO WHY IT'S A PILOT YEAR IN A MINUTE.

SO WHAT ARE WHAT'S REQUIRED AS FAR AS THE CONTENT OF THE COURSE? SO THAT FIRST BULLET IS A QUOTE THAT'S TAKEN DIRECTLY OUT OF THE MODEL CURRICULUM AND THE BILL.

BUT WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS A FOCUS WITHIN THE CURRICULUM IN THE CONTENT ON THOSE FOUR FOUNDATIONAL DISCIPLINES AFRICAN AMERICAN, CHICANO, AND LATINO, NATIVE AMERICAN AND ASIAN AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER STUDIES.

AND THEN THE SECOND BULLET IS ALL THE LESSONS MUST BE ROOTED UNDER THESE THEMES.

AND SO THESE FOUR THEMES IDENTITY, HISTORY AND MOVEMENT, SYSTEMS OF POWER, SOCIAL MOVEMENTS, AND EQUITY TO MAKE CONNECTIONS TO THE EXPERIENCES TO ALL STUDENTS.

I ALSO THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO POINT OUT, THE FOURTH BULLET, ENCOURAGES LEAS TO INCLUDE DISCUSSIONS ON ETHNIC HERITAGE AND THE LEGACIES OF STUDENTS IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY.

SO REALLY TAKING THE CONTENT AND LOOKING AT OUR LOCAL CORONADO CONTEXT, I KNOW FOR EXAMPLE, I DON'T KNOW IF THE EXHIBIT'S UP YET.

BUT THEY WERE DOING, THE HISTORY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN PEOPLES IN CORONADO.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, PARTNERING WITH LOCAL, COMMUNITY PARTNERS, BUT MAKING SURE THAT WE DO HAVE THE AUTONOMY, TO APPLY, THE CONTENT TO OUR LOCAL CONTEXT AND IN COMMUNITY.

AND THEN THERE'S REFERENCES TO THE CDE DOCUMENTS.

ALL RIGHT, SO OUR PLAN AND I KNOW YOU'VE HAD A CHANCE TO ALREADY LOOK AT THIS, BUT I KNOW PRINCIPAL MOLINA AND WE'RE ALL REALLY EXCITED FOR OUR PLAN.

SO THE REQUIRED COURSE, AS I SHARED BEFORE, IS WILL BE FOR NINTH GRADERS.

SO ALL FRESHMEN WILL TAKE A NINE WEEK ETHNIC STUDIES COURSE.

AND THEN FOR THE SECOND NINE WEEKS OF THAT TERM, THEY WILL TAKE WHAT, THE HIGH SCHOOL DECIDED TO TERMINATE A FRESHMAN ISLANDER EXPERIENCE COURSE. AND THEN THERE'S A QUOTE AND A LINK TO A STUDY.

WHY, NINTH GRADE, IF YOU'RE INTERESTED.

AND THEN THERE'S AN 11TH GRADE OPTION.

THIS WOULD BE A VOLUNTARY OPPORTUNITY FOR, FOR JUNIORS, TO MEET THEIR ELA REQUIREMENT.

[01:40:05]

SO AN 18 WEEK ETHNIC LITERATURE COURSE.

SO JUNIOR WOULD HAVE AN OPTION TO MEET THEIR ENGLISH REQUIREMENT A THROUGH G BY EITHER TAKING THE ETHNIC LITERATURE COURSE, BY TAKING 11TH GRADE ENGLISH OR BY TAKING THE AP LANGUAGE COURSE.

SO THERE WOULD BE THREE OPTIONS FOR A JUNIOR.

WE DO GET STUDENTS THAT COME TO US AS UPPERCLASSMEN.

AND, IDEALLY, I MEAN, LAST CASE RESORT WOULD BE WE'RE GOING TO STICK A JUNIOR IN THE CLASS WITH THE FRESHMAN, RIGHT.

THAT COULD BE AN OPTION TO MEET THE REQUIREMENT, BUT THIS WOULD GIVE OTHER OPTIONS FOR STUDENTS THAT DO TRANSFER INTO US AS A SOPHOMORE OR JUNIOR OR EVEN A SENIOR WOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE THIS AND EARN ELECTIVE CREDIT.

AND THEN OTHER OPTIONS WOULD BE FOR FURTHER STUDY, DUAL ENROLLMENT OPPORTUNITIES, WHICH WE HAVE OFFERED ALREADY PREVIOUSLY, THE CHICANO STUDIES CLASS WITH SOUTHWESTERN. SO TO DIG A LITTLE DEEPER INTO THE NINTH GRADE REQUIREMENT, I KNOW YOU'VE HAD A CHANCE TO REVIEW THE, THIS IS A SAMPLE COURSE DESCRIPTION.

BUT ALL NINTH GRADERS WILL TAKE BOTH OF THESE COURSES OVER ONE TERM.

AND THEN THE FRESHMAN ISLANDER EXPERIENCE, IT'S REALLY A FRESHMAN BOOT CAMP.

LET'S GET OUR FRESHMEN ACCLIMATED TO HIGH SCHOOL.

LET'S GIVE THEM ALL THE INFORMATION THAT THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

THROUGHOUT THEIR FOUR YEARS AT CHS, IT WILL BE AN ELECTIVE COURSE, A THROUGH G APPROVED ELECTIVE AND EXAMPLES OF TOPICS FOR YOUR PLANNING COLLEGE CAREER READINESS A THROUGH G.

SO COUNSELORS WILL PUSH IN AND MAKE AND DO PRESENTATIONS ACADEMIC SKILLS FOR HIGH SCHOOL SUCCESS, ACADEMIC LITERACY.

THE NEW BILL AB 873 ON MEDIA LITERACY.

THAT'S THE NEPTUNE NAVIGATE SOFTWARE THAT WE'RE PILOTING RIGHT NOW THAT YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT, DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP, FINANCIAL LITERACY COMPONENTS. THE STATE BILL 224 FOR THE MENTAL HEALTH REQUIREMENT CAN BE INCLUDED IN THIS CLASS AS WELL.

AND THEN TECHNOLOGY, NAVIGATION SKILLS.

THIS ISN'T A FULL LIST.

THIS IS JUST, A EXAMPLES OF TOPICS THAT WILL BE INCLUDED IN THAT NINE WEEK BOOT CAMP.

THERE ARE OTHER SCHOOLS THAT OFFER A SIMILAR COURSE RIGHT NOW FOR FRESHMEN.

AND SO, ONCE OUR HIGH SCHOOL IS DETERMINED, THE INSTRUCTORS FOR THE COURSES, THEY CAN GO AND VISIT OTHER SCHOOLS ACROSS THE BRIDGE AND AND, COLLABORATE AS WELL WITH THEM.

THERE ARE ALSO, YOU SEE A THROUGH G APPROVED COURSES ALREADY IN THE PORTAL THAT WE CAN MODEL AFTER, FOR ETHNIC STUDIES, A NINE WEEK.

SO ONE SEMESTER AND THEN ALSO FOR THE FRESHMAN ISLANDER EXPERIENCE.

AND THEN THE 11TH GRADE OPPORTUNITY.

AS I SHARED BEFORE, JUNIORS CAN MEET THEIR ELA B REQUIREMENT FOR UC AND ALSO FOR GRADUATION THROUGH 11TH GRADE ENGLISH, THE ETHNIC LITERATURE, OR THE AP LANGUAGE CLASS.

AND THEN YOU CAN SEE WHAT THE I KNOW YOU'VE HAD A CHANCE TO READ THE.

COURSE DESCRIPTION ALREADY ENSURING THAT IT DOES MEET THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS STANDARDS EMBEDDED.

IT'S JUST THROUGH ETHNIC LITERATURE LENS, AND THERE ARE COURSES THAT OTHER SCHOOLS OFFER THAT ARE ALREADY A THROUGH G APPROVED THAT WE CAN ALSO MODEL AFTER.

AND SO WHAT ARE OUR NEXT STEPS? SO WE PRINCIPAL MOLINA HAS DISCUSSED THESE OPPORTUNITIES WITH SOME CURRENT TEACHERS ON CAMPUS WHO ARE LIKELY TO BE TEACHING THESE COURSES NEXT YEAR.

AND SO THEY'RE CURRENTLY LOOKING AT ALL THE SAMPLE COURSE OUTLINES THAT ARE ON, THE COLLEGE BOARD WEBSITE, AND LOOKING AT THOSE SAMPLES AND THEN COMING UP WITH THEIR SYLLABI, AND THEIR COURSE OUTLINES.

SO THAT'S A WORK IN PROGRESS THROUGHOUT THIS SPRING.

AND THEN WE WILL RESEARCH AND SELECT COURSE MATERIALS TO PILOT NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

SO THAT'S THE MAIN REASON WHY WE WANTED TO START A YEAR EARLIER WAS TO REALLY VET MATERIALS, SEE WHAT'S WORKING, WHAT'S NOT WORKING.

AND SO WE CAN FINE TUNE IT BEFORE IT BECOMES THE ACTUAL, YOU KNOW, REQUIREMENT AND ANY MATERIALS THAT WE WANT TO ADOPT AS OUR PERMANENT CURRICULA FOR THE CLASS WILL COME TO YOU FOR APPROVAL, BECAUSE IT'S A 9 THROUGH 12 COURSE.

SO WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING AT A VARIETY OF MATERIALS, THIS SPRING.

AND THEN THE COURSES ARE GOING TO BE ON THE COURSE SELECTION FORMS WHEN THEY GO OUT AT THE END OF THIS MONTH, AND THEN TO INCOMING FRESHMEN AT THE BEGINNING OF

[01:45:10]

FEBRUARY. SO PARENTS AND FAMILIES WILL SEE THESE COURSES ON THEIR REQUEST FORMS FOR THEIR PLANNING FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

I AM AVAILABLE.

THAT IS AN OVERVIEW.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR PLAN FOR THE NEW ETHNIC STUDIES REQUIREMENT.

DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEM 6.5 AT THIS TIME? TRUSTEES. ANY COMMENTS? QUESTIONS? OKAY.

YES, PLEASE. THANK YOU, DOCTOR BATTLE FOR THE PRESENTATION.

I DO KNOW THAT I BELIEVE THE FRESHMAN ISLANDER EXPERIENCE NINE WEEK COURSE.

CAME FROM SOME OF THE WORK OF OUR 4X4 COMMITTEE.

AS HAVING THAT AS A RECOMMENDATION AND IDEA AND WOULD AGAIN LIKE TO THANK OUR TRUSTEES THAT TOOK THAT ON AND BROUGHT US THAT SUGGESTION.

I AM A LITTLE UNCERTAIN WHEN YOU SAY IT'S AN ELECTIVE.

IT'S SO THERE WILL BE THE NINE WEEK ETHNIC STUDIES REQUIRED, AND THEN THE ISLANDER EXPERIENCE IS AN ELECTIVE, MEANING THERE WOULD BE ANOTHER NINE WEEK OPTION IF THEY DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE THE ELECTIVE.

YEAH. NO. SO THANK YOU FOR ASKING THAT.

SO G AN A THROUGH G CLASS, THE G IS ANY KIND OF ELECTIVE CREDIT.

THEY'RE GOING TO BE REQUIRED TO TAKE BOTH OF THESE.

BUT ON THEIR A THROUGH G CALCULATIONS IT'S A G DESIGNATION.

SO THEY'LL BE GETTING TEN ELECTIVE CREDITS TOWARDS GRADUATION.

THANK YOU. SO IT WILL NOT BE ELECTED MEANING THEY CAN OPT IN OR OUT.

IT'S NOT OPTIONAL. THANK YOU FOR CLARIFYING THAT.

IT'S JUST THEY'LL EARN ELECTIVE CREDITS TOWARDS THEIR GRADUATION RATHER THAN COURSE SPECIFIC CREDITS.

YES. TO A CERTAIN AREA OF STUDY.

YES. AND ONE THING I FORGOT TO MENTION TOO UNDER THE FRESHMAN ISLANDER EXPERIENCE IS WE ARE SEEING ALSO SOME OF THESE THEMES IN OUR PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE WORK.

AND SO IT'LL BE, REALLY GREAT TO SEE THE OUTCOMES OF THAT WORK THIS SPRING AND HOW WE CAN EVEN FURTHER FINE TUNE THESE TOPICS TO ALIGN TO OUR PORTRAITS.

OKAY. I DO HAVE A COUPLE OF OTHER QUESTIONS.

MY NEXT ONE IS SOMETHING I WANTED TO BRING UP AT OUR NEXT OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS ADOPTING CURRICULUM, AND IT WOULD BE TO EXPRESS MY PREFERENCE WHEN BEING BROUGHT CURRICULUM TO ADOPT, TO LEAN MORE TOWARDS CURRICULUM THAT'S HEAVY ON INSTRUCTIONAL MINUTES BY INSTRUCTORS RATHER THAN ONLINE VIDEO SCREEN TIME, AND I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHEN THE RIGHT TIME TO DO THAT IS, BUT I THOUGHT I'D BRING IT UP.

NOW, SINCE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT LOOKING AT CURRICULUMS, YOU KNOW, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S BEEN BUBBLING IN THE COMMUNITY.

AND THE LARGER, I THINK, EDUCATION, MILIEU AND SOMETHING THAT I WOULD LIKE TO EXPLORE MORE AND I BELIEVE WE INTEND TO DO IT WITH THE CYBER COMMITTEE.

BUT, YOU KNOW, NOW IF WE'RE LOOKING AT THESE NEW CURRICULUMS AND TALKING ABOUT CYBER SAFETY AND CITIZENSHIP AND SECURITY AND, I JUST WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS MY PREFERENCE AND OPEN TO THE REST OF THE BOARD THAT, YOU KNOW, WE FIND SOMETHING THAT AT LEAST HAS A VERY REAL BALANCE THAT IS NOT SO HEAVILY ONLINE, ON SCREENS AND MORE INSTRUCTIONALLY LED.

SO I DON'T KNOW WHEN YOU KNOW, SUPERINTENDENT, IF THAT'S SOMETHING YOU COULD TELL US WHEN OR HOW WE WOULD DISCUSS, OR IF YOU NEED ALL OF US TO WEIGH IN ON THAT.

NOT AT THIS TIME.

I THINK THE NEXT TIME A TEXTBOOK ADOPTION COMES FORWARD, WE WILL ENGAGE IN THAT CONVERSATION.

BUT NOTED.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

AND THAT MY FINAL QUESTION IS THERE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE 11TH GRADE CLASS TO BE OFFERED AS EITHER AN HONORS OR AP? SO THE KIDS THAT WANT TO DO HONORS OR AP COULD ALSO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO THE ETHNIC LITERATURE.

SO NOT AT THIS TIME.

BUT A SENIOR WOULD BE WELCOMED INTO THE 11TH GRADE CLASS.

BUT THEY WOULD EARN ELECTIVE CREDITS TOWARDS GRADUATION.

THEY WOULDN'T GET REPEAT ENGLISH CREDIT.

THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THEIR 12TH GRADE ENGLISH STANDARDS BASED CLASS.

BUT DEPENDING ON ENROLLMENT AND IF THERE'S SEATS AVAILABLE, IT COULD BE SOMETHING THAT WE CONSIDER.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE REPORT.

MR. RIEBE. SORRY.

MY COMMENTS ARE.

I'M SUPER JEALOUS THAT I WAS NOT OFFERED THIS, THIS ETHNICS, COURSE WHEN I WAS IN 11TH GRADE.

I THINK IT IS REALLY COOL WHEN YOU SEE, MORE OPTIONS TO STUDENTS.

SO ME GOING INTO MY 11TH GRADE YEAR, I HAVE THREE OPTIONS FOR AN ENGLISH CLASS.

THAT IS AWESOME IN MY OPINION.

I'M CURRENTLY IN ERWC, WHICH IS EXPOSITORY READING AND CREATIVE WRITING WITH MR.

[01:50:01]

STOVER. AND WE ALSO HAVE THE AP ENGLISH, AND WE HAVE, REGULAR ENGLISH 12.

AND I THINK IT'S REALLY COOL WHEN YOU SEE OPTIONS LIKE THAT.

SO I'M EXCITED ABOUT THAT 11TH GRADE ETHNICS COURSE.

AND AS WELL AS THE FRESHMEN, MY BROTHER IS GOING TO BE A FRESHMAN NEXT YEAR, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO COMING HOME AND HEARING ABOUT WHAT HE'S LEARNING IN THAT CLASS BECAUSE, OBVIOUSLY I WAS NOT GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY.

SHUCKS, IT SOUNDS REALLY COOL.

AWESOME. THANK YOU.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.

I WOULD I DO THINK THAT THE ISLANDER EXPERIENCE CLASS, PRESENTS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO KIND OF ADDRESS A LOT OF THE ISSUES THAT WE'VE ALL BEEN DISCUSSING, IN A MORE FOCUSED AND DEDICATED FORUM, YOU KNOW, THAT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET TO IN A STUDENT BODY PRESENTATION WITH THE PRINCIPAL, ETC..

THAT'S CATCH AS CATCH CAN.

AND, SO I DO THINK THAT THERE'S A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY IN THAT.

AND I WILL AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS.

SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR REPORTS TONIGHT.

NO PROBLEM. ITEM 6.6.

[6.6 Deputy Superintendent Updates ]

DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT UPDATES SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT.

DR. BATTLE, DO YOU WANT TO COME BACK UP AND COVER FOR.

DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT SALAMANCA IS AVAILABLE TO RESPOND TO ANY QUESTIONS.

REGARDING HIS MONTHLY DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT UPDATES.

DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT.

YES. INCLUDED IN TODAY.

TONIGHT'S REPORT IS, THE ATTENDANCE DASHBOARD FOR MONTH FIVE, AS WELL AS THE EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF THE RECENTLY RELEASED 24-25 GOVERNOR'S PROPOSED BUDGET. I'M AVAILABLE FOR ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE.

I WONDER IF YOU COULD GIVE US JUST SOME BROAD STROKES ON THE GOVERNOR'S BUDGET.

LIKE, VERY HIGH LEVEL IN THE SHORTEST WAY POSSIBLE.

THE BIGGEST, ITEM THAT WAS INCLUDED IN THE GOVERNOR'S PROPOSED BUDGET FOR 24-25 WAS A DOWNWARD REVISION OF THE ESTIMATED COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT IN LAY TERMS. THAT'S THE AMOUNT OF REVENUE THAT WE AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT CAN EXPECT TO RECEIVE IN THE COMING SCHOOL YEAR.

IN PERCENTAGES, THE COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT, WAS PREVIOUSLY ESTIMATED ABOUT 3.94%.

THE LATEST ESTIMATE IS NOW 0.76%.

SO, ABOUT A FOURTH OF THE AMOUNT THAT WAS PROMISED IN ROUGH DOLLARS.

THAT'S ABOUT $1.1 MILLION IN DECREASED REVENUES FOR CUSD IN 2425.

BEFORE WE GET TO TRUSTEE COMMENTS.

DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEM 6.6? OKAY. TRUSTEES, ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? SO, DEPUTY SALAMANCA, YOU MENTIONED.

SO THE COLA PROJECTION WILL LOWER OUR, FINANCES JUST OVER $1 MILLION A YEAR.

AND THEN ON A PREVIOUS, I THINK IT WAS LAST MONTH YOU HAD MENTIONED, HEALTH INSURANCE RATES INCREASES ARE IN THE DOUBLE DIGITS.

HOW? LIKE WHERE THE DOUBLE DIGITS, LIKE SO DEPENDING ON THE RATE STRUCTURE, WE HAVE, THREE DIFFERENT, FOUR DIFFERENT PROVIDER PLAN OPTIONS.

THE LOWEST INCREASE WAS ABOUT 5%.

THE HIGHEST IS 12%, DEPENDING ON WHICH PLAN YOU CHOOSE.

OKAY. AND THEN YOU ALSO MENTIONED, EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTIONS FOR EMPLOYEES PER STIRRS CONTINUE TO INCREASE.

CAN YOU GIVE US AN IDEA OF WHAT THOSE HAVE INCREASED TO? OFFHAND, I WOULD HAVE TO GET BACK TO YOU ON THAT.

OUR CONTRIBUTIONS ARE UPWARDS OF 3 TO $4 MILLION.

FOR EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTIONS.

I WOULD HAVE TO GET BACK WITH YOU WITH AN EXACT NUMBER.

I WAS THINKING PERCENTAGE, LIKE PERCENT OF AN EMPLOYEE SALARY THAT GOES NOW GOES TO [INAUDIBLE] I COULD PULL THE NUMBERS UP.

ROUGH, ROUGH NUMBERS.

THE NUMBERS ARE DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON IF YOU'RE A CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OR A CERTIFICATED EMPLOYEE.

THE EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTIONS ARE ROUGHLY ABOUT 22%, FOR ONE OF THE GROUPS AND ABOUT 27% FOR THE OTHER.

OKAY. AND THEN THE, EMPLOYEES IS AROUND EIGHT.

IS THAT CORRECT? DEPENDING ON WHICH RATE CATEGORY, IT'S 8% IS ON THE LOWER END, I BELIEVE 10% IS ON THE HIGHER END.

OKAY. AND ALL OF THAT IS INCREASED BY DIRECTION FROM THE STATE.

YES. SO KIND OF THE LOWER COLA THE INCREASED COST.

SO WE'VE GOT SOME DECISIONS TO MAKE.

YES. WE ARE EXCITED TO HEAR FROM EXPERTS AT SCHOOL SERVICES AND THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE TOMORROW AT THE GOVERNOR'S BUDGET WORKSHOP.

[01:55:05]

I KNOW MYSELF A MEMBER OF MY FISCAL TEAM.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION WAS ALSO SCHEDULED TO ATTEND.

AFTER WE KIND OF HEAR THE DETAILS AND ANALYSIS FROM THOSE EXPERTS, WE ARE EAGER TO PROVIDE A MORE DETAILED UPDATE ON THE IMPACTS FOR CUSD.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

SO NOT TO STATE THE OBVIOUS, BUT NO ONE'S COST OF LIVING HAS INCREASED BY ONLY 0.76% OVER THE PAST YEAR.

DO THEY DOES THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE, DO THEY DO ANY OUTYEAR PROJECTIONS AT ALL? YES THEY DO.

SO LOOKING AT THE OUTYEAR COST OF LIVING PROJECTIONS FOR THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, THEY'VE ALSO DID THEY'VE DONE DOWNWARD REVISIONS TO THOSE COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENTS AS WELL.

OKAY. SO, TO WHAT EXTENT THE.

I LOOKED AT THE OUTYEAR, PROJECTIONS FOR 24-25, THE IMPACT TO THE USD, I THINK ARE THE MOST RELEVANT NUMBERS.

LOOKING YEAR TO YEAR OVER OUR PROJECTIONS FOR 24, 25.

IT WAS A $1.1 MILLION DECREASE IN REVENUES, 1.2 AND THE FOLLOWING YEAR AND APPROXIMATELY 1.1 MILLION IN THE THIRD, IN THE SECOND SUBSEQUENT YEAR.

SO APPROXIMATELY THERE, THE PROJECTIONS ARE FOR 1% OR LESS THAN 1%.

COLAS FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS.

IS THAT MY INTERPRET? IS THAT SORT OF CORRECT OR SORT OF CORRECT? I'M HAPPY TO PULL THEM UP BRIEFLY IF YOU'LL GIVE ME JUST.

BUT IT'S BAD. IT'S NOT GREAT.

YES. THANK YOU.

I'M GOING TO JUMP BACK REALLY QUICKLY TO ABSENTEEISM AND ATTENDANCE.

WHAT IS OUR GOAL ATTENDANCE PERCENTAGE, OUR ALL OF THE GRAPHS.

THERE'S, YOU KNOW, NUMBERS AND YELLOW NUMBERS IN RED.

WHAT ARE WE SHOOTING FOR THE AMOUNT OR THE ATTENDANCE PERCENTAGE THAT WE'VE BUDGETED IS 96%.

AND SO AS YOU'LL SEE WE'RE JUST SHY OF THOSE IN ALL AREAS.

SO IF I'M LOOKING AT THE CORONADO HIGH SCHOOL ATTENDANCE FOR NINTH GRADE, IT'S 96.5%.

AND THAT'S IN YELLOW.

IS. I MEAN, WE HIT.

IS THAT WHAT WE HIT? WE SHOULD.

THAT BEING GREEN, I GUESS.

LET ME CLARIFY THIS.

OKAY. OUR GOAL IS 97% BECAUSE THAT WAS OUR PREVIOUS.

OKAY. THAT WAS OUR PREVIOUS ATTENDANCE, PRIOR TO THE PANDEMIC AND EVERYTHING THAT'S HAPPENED RECENTLY.

97 WOULD BE A GREEN, 96 WOULD BE A YELLOW, AND UNDER THAT WOULD BE A RED.

GOTCHA. THANK YOU.

I MEAN, I LOVE SEEING THIS INFORMATION.

I APPRECIATE SEEING THIS.

I THINK THAT PARENTS NEED TO SEE THIS INFORMATION.

I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S A WAY FOR PRINCIPALS ONCE A MONTH TO MAYBE PUT THE LAST MONTH'S, ATTENDANCE DASHBOARD ON THERE AND SAY OUR GOAL IS 97% JUST TO KIND OF HAVE IT OUT THERE FOR PEOPLE TO SEE.

I KNOW IT'S COLD AND FLU SEASON, BUT, I MEAN, DECLINING ENROLLMENT, ABSENTEEISM, LOSS OF REVENUE, IT'S ALL KIND OF TIED IN THERE.

I THINK THAT'S A GREAT IDEA.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS? IF I MAY? YES, PLEASE.

WE ENTERED A WORLD WHERE WE COULDN'T LEAVE OUR HOUSES FOR A LONG TIME.

AND THEN, YOU KNOW, FIRST WE WERE MANDATED TO BE CERTAIN PLACES, AND THEN WE WEREN'T ALLOWED TO LEAVE OUR HOUSES, AND THEN WE WERE ONLY ALLOWED TO COME BACK UNDER VERY TIGHT CONDITIONS AND CONTROLS.

AND NOW WE HAVE KIDS AT HOME AND THE, YOU KNOW, THE WHATEVER THE RULES ARE DON'T SEEM TO MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE.

BUT THOSE CONSTRAINTS ON WHEN AND WHERE WE I MEAN, AS A SOCIETY, WE'RE EXPECTED TO BE CHANGED.

AND SO AT WHAT POINT DO WE ADAPT OUR EXPECTATIONS FOR ATTENDANCE? I MEAN, THE PEOPLE AREN'T GOING BACK TO THEIR OFFICES.

YOU KNOW, MOMS AND DADS THAT ARE WORKING ARE STAYING HOME.

AND SO HAS THAT EXPECTATION CHANGED? AND SHOULD WE REEVALUATE THAT GOAL OR MESSAGE IT IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAT'S MORE CELEBRATORY AND LESS [INAUDIBLE]? AND YOU CAN PUT THAT IN A TRANSCRIPT.

[INAUDIBLE] BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

[02:00:01]

I DON'T KNOW WHERE HOW THAT HAPPENS, BUT IT FEELS LIKE THE WORLD HAS CHANGED A LOT AND WE'RE STICKING TO CHARTS AND NUMBERS THAT MAYBE DON'T APPLY SO MUCH.

AND IF IT'S A STATE MANDATES A STATE MANDATE, AND I KNOW ATTENDANCE IS A STATE MANDATE, BUT IF WE COULD CALIBRATE OUR EXPECTATIONS NOT BASED ON PRE-PANDEMIC NUMBERS, WHICH IS WHAT BROUGHT THAT TO MIND, RIGHT? YOU KNOW, WE'RE LOOKING AT COMPARED TO BEFORE THE PANDEMIC, AND NOW WE EXPECT THE SAME THING.

AND PEOPLE ARE STILL TESTING FOR COVID AND WAS [INAUDIBLE] IT'S A POSITIVE I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.

AND JUST STAY HOME SEEMS TO BE THE MOST MAKE THE MOST SENSE.

IS THERE ROOM FOR THAT IN THE STATE MANDATES? YEAH. HOW MUCH MONEY WOULD THAT.

SO IF OUR NUMBERS ARE BASED ON 97% ENROLLMENT, HOW MUCH MONEY REVENUE WOULD WE LOSE IF WE BASED IT ON 95%? WELL, WE BUDGET WE WOULDN'T LOSE.

WE WOULD BUDGET DIFFERENTLY.

RIGHT. THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE.

WE WOULD BUDGET DIFFERENTLY AND OR ACCEPT MORE STUDENTS OR ALLOW FOR IT.

SO I DON'T I'M NOT I GUESS I DON'T MEAN IT.

I'M NOT SAYING WE SHOULD JUST TAKE A LOSS, BUT MAYBE WE APPROACH IT DIFFERENTLY.

SO I, DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT, DO YOU MIND IF I JUMP IN FOR A MOMENT? I BELIEVE YOU'VE ANSWERED SOME OF YOUR OWN QUESTION HERE.

RIGHT? WE'RE TRYING TO ESTABLISH A PRE-PANDEMIC BASELINE, FOR BUDGET PROJECTIONS.

OBVIOUSLY, WE'RE ONLY GOING TO RECEIVE THE REVENUE THAT'S REFLECTED IN THE PERCENTAGE OF DAYS OUR STUDENTS ARE IN ATTENDANCE.

AND HOW MANY OF THOSE STUDENTS WE CURRENTLY HAVE IN OUR DISTRICT.

THIS MAY BE A PART OF A BROADER CONVERSATION ABOUT HOW WE BUDGET THAT GOAL.

AS DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT JUST SHARED, THE 97 WOULD BE THE GREEN, THE 96 WOULD BE, CALIBRATING ALL OF THAT IS REALLY FOR US TO PRIORITIZE GETTING OUR STUDENTS IN SCHOOL.

AND AS WE KNOW, REVENUE IS ONLY PART OF THAT.

ALL OF THE RESEARCH SHOW EVERYTHING THAT WE KNOW ABOUT PUBLIC EDUCATION.

AS OUR STUDENTS NEED TO BE THERE, THEY NEED TO BE IN THE CLASSROOMS. SO I UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION AND THE SPIRIT OF THE QUESTION.

I THINK THAT WOULD CREATE A BROADER CONVERSATION HERE.

WE DON'T WANT TO LOWER OUR EXPECTATION FOR GETTING KIDS IN THE BUILDING, BUT WE DON'T WANT THEM TO SHOW UP IF IT'S NOT SAFE AND HEALTHY FOR THEM TO DO SO.

SO PERHAPS A FUTURE CONVERSATION.

REALLY, THIS COMES DOWN TO IF WE EXCEED OUR THRESHOLD, THEN MORE REVENUE COMES INTO THE DISTRICT.

IF WE DIP BELOW THAT THRESHOLD AND WE'VE BUDGETED FOR 96 AND 94%, THEN WE HAVE A HIT TO OUR BUDGET.

SO THIS REALLY IS IS INTENDED TO ANTICIPATE REVENUE COMING INTO THE DISTRICT.

BUT I UNDERSTAND THE SPIRIT OF YOUR QUESTION AND CERTAINLY SOMETHING FOR US TO EXPLORE.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS? THOUGHTS? ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

[6.7 Superintendent Updates ]

MOVING ON TO ITEM 6.7 SUPERINTENDENT UPDATES.

SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER. DOCTOR BATTLE.

SORRY, I HAD TO GO BACK ONE LAST TIME.

I UNDERSTAND THE COMMUNITY HAS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW THE SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE.

LONG RANGE PLAN.

THE TWO AREAS OF FOCUS THIS MONTH.

SCHOOL SAFETY OPERATIONS, UPDATES ON OUR SCHOOL SAFETY.

AND THE OTHER, WANTED TO NOTIFY THE COMMUNITY AND THE BOARD.

WORKING CLOSELY WITH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, WE HAVE SECURED A DATE FOR OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS WORKSHOP THAT WILL BE MARCH 26TH AT 5 P.M.

HERE IN THE CUSD BOARD ROOM.

I'M AVAILABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING MY REPORT.

DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEM 6.7? TRUSTEES. SO, SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER, I WOULD LIKE TO JUST COMMEND YOU FOR PUTTING TOGETHER, THE, UPDATES ON THE SCHOOL SAFETY OPERATIONS AND THE LONGITUDINAL WORK THAT THE DISTRICT HAS DONE AFTER GETTING THE REPORT AND WORKING WITH, SO STAFF, FROM THE CONSULTANTS TO INSTITUTE THE DIFFERENT CHANGES.

AND, I THINK FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED, I KNOW THERE WAS SOME COMMUNITY INPUT ON THAT, YOU KNOW, YOU CAN DEFINITELY SEE WE'RE CHIPPING AWAY AT, THE REPORT AND WE'RE TRYING TO MAKE AS MANY POSITIVE IMPACTS AS WE CAN, ON WHAT WHAT IS A VERY SERIOUS POTENTIAL PROBLEM.

SO THANK YOU FOR LAYING IT ALL OUT.

AND I WOULD, REFER ANYONE WHO HAS QUESTIONS TO THIS SPECIFIC, LONG RANGE PLAN UPDATE.

SO THANK YOU. I AGREE, I WAS LOOKING AT THE SAFETY UPDATES AND I REALLY APPRECIATED THE E

[02:05:02]

911 UPDATE COMPLIANCE WITH CARRIE'S LAW IN SECTION 506 OF THE RAY BAUM'S ACT.

AND FOR THOSE WHO MAY NOT HAVE SEEN THIS, ALLOWS WHEN SOMEBODY DIALS 911 FROM ANY A ROOM IN ONE OF OUR SCHOOLS, THE POLICE WILL NOT JUST SEE THE ADDRESS OF THE SCHOOL, THEY WILL KNOW EXACTLY WHICH ROOM THAT CALL IS COMING FROM.

AND I THINK THAT IS A HUGE PIECE, AN UPDATE TO OUR SAFETY AND SECURITY OF OUR SCHOOLS.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT UPDATE.

IF I MAY, I WANTED TO THANK THE STAFF FOR PUTTING TOGETHER THE COMMUNITY PARTNERS WORKSHOPS THAT SCHEDULED AS REFERENCED.

I DO NOTE THAT REPRESENTATIVES WILL BE THERE ON HAND FOR THE PRESENTATION AND WILL BE A CELEBRATION OF THEIR SERVICE ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

I'M ALL FOR A PARTY, BUT I REALLY WANT TO BE ABLE TO ASK IN-DEPTH QUESTIONS AT THIS EVENT.

AND WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IT A NUMBER OF TIMES, AND I JUST HOPE THAT OPPORTUNITY WILL BE AVAILABLE AS WELL, SEEKING TO UNDERSTAND THE INTERPLAY OF THE DIFFERENT FUNDING STREAMS. SO IF I MAY, THANK YOU FOR THAT POINT.

WE ARE CREATING A TEMPLATE WITH SOME STANDARDIZED INFORMATION THAT WE'RE ASKING OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO SUBMIT.

THE REASON WHY THIS DATE IS SO FAR INTO THE FUTURE AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THESE ARE COMMUNITY SERVICE AND VOLUNTEER POSITIONS FOR THE MOST PART.

THERE ARE SOME STAFF MEMBERS AND SOME OF OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS.

WE ARE GOING TO TRY, THROUGH ENCOURAGEMENT, FOR ALL OF OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THOSE IN-DEPTH AND DETAILED QUESTIONS.

MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE AT THE CONCLUSION OF THAT EVENT.

IF THERE ARE ARE FURTHER QUESTIONS THAT WE WOULD LIKE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON, THAT WE WOULD WORK WITH THOSE INDIVIDUAL, COMMUNITY PARTNERS.

WE'RE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE DONE THIS.

WE'RE EXCITED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.

I BELIEVE OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS ARE ALSO EXCITED.

BUT OUR PIO HAS DONE A LOT OF WORK JUST GETTING THE TEMPLATE, POPULATED FROM SOME OF OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS.

SO NOTED.

AND WE WILL ATTEMPT TO, WITH A COMMITMENT TO ADDRESS ANY QUESTIONS THAT WEREN'T ADDRESSED THAT DAY, THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO LOOP BACK AND BRING THAT INFORMATION TO THE BOARD.

OKAY. MAY I MAKE A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION THAT I WOULD HOPE WOULD BE INCLUDED IN THAT? ONE THAT INCLUDES OUR TOES AND OUR DIFFERENT SPORTS BOOSTERS CLUBS, AS WELL AS, THE IDENTIFYING INFORMATION FOR ANY AND ALL COMMUNICATION FORMS THAT THEY USE AND WHO HOLDS THE KEYS FOR THOSE COMMUNICATION PLATFORMS IS OUR INFORMATION THAT I THINK SHOULD BE INCLUDED.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FEEDBACK.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR WORKING.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU SUPERINTENDENT.

MOVING ON TO ITEM 7.1 REVISIONS TO BOARD POLICIES, BOARD BYLAWS, ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS AND OR EXHIBITS.

[7.1 Revisions to Board Policies, Board Bylaws, Administrative Regulations, and/or Exhibits]

DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEM 7.1? TRUSTEES. ANY COMMENTS? HOW DO YOU KNOW IT WAS ME? YES.

SPECIFICALLY PAGE 273.

ADMINISTRATION. ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATION 1220.

THE BOARD RECEIVED COMMUNICATION FROM LOCAL SELPA AREA PARENTS, NOT NECESSARILY CORONADO PARENTS, BUT THE SELPA IS THE SPECIAL EDUCATION LOCAL PLAN THAT WE CONTRIBUTE TO.

WITH SOME CONCERNS ABOUT THE COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE THAT IS REQUIRED UNDER STATE LAW AND WHETHER OR NOT PARENTS ARE PARTICIPATING AS REQUIRED, AND THE LEVEL OF PARTICIPATION. SO I DO NOTE THAT WE HAVE OUR AR 1220 AND IT MENTIONS THAT WE'RE AWAITING UPDATED LANGUAGE, REGARDING THESE PROTOCOLS. AND I JUST WANTED TO ASK WHEN, IF WE WHEN WE SHOULD EXPECT THAT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT HAS BEEN A SUBJECT OF SOME CONCERN IN THE BROADER SOUTH BAY COMMUNITY.

THANK YOU AND I APPRECIATE THE QUESTION COMING UP NOW, DURING THE FIRST READ, RATHER THAN PRIOR TO TAKING ACTION, I WOULD LIKE TO CALL UP OUR DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES, NIAMH FOLEY. SHE IS WORKING CLOSELY WITH OUR SELPA AND THE SELPA LEADERSHIP TEAM TO ADDRESS THESE CONCERNS.

DIRECTOR FOLEY, GOOD EVENING.

THANK YOU FOR THAT QUESTION.

SO AS YOU MENTIONED, OUR SELPA IS A GROUP OF SEVEN OTHER NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS.

SO THEY HAVE BEEN CREATING THIS TEMPLATE FOR A PROTOCOL FOR HOW THE BOARD WILL APPOINT SOMEONE TO SIT ON THIS ADVISORY.

I RECEIVED A TEMPLATE OF THAT THIS MORNING.

YOU WILL HAVE IT NEXT MONTH FOR A FIRST READ IN A BP.

SO, THE CURRENT WHAT WE'VE HAD UP UNTIL NOW HAS BEEN AN APPOINTMENT, USUALLY BY MYSELF OR SOMEONE IN THE SPECIAL EDUCATION

[02:10:09]

DEPARTMENT. WE, AS THE SIZE OF OUR DISTRICT, WERE ELIGIBLE TO HAVE ONE PARENT AND ONE STAFF MEMBER SIT ON THAT.

THERE ARE 16 PARENTS THAT SIT TOTAL.

BUT BASED ON OUR ENROLLMENT, WE'RE ALLOTTED ONE MEMBER ON THAT COMMITTEE.

SO WHAT YOU'LL SEE NEXT MONTH IS A PROTOCOL FOR HOW A PARENT, IF THEY ARE INTERESTED, WILL COMPLETE AN APPLICATION, HOW WE WILL EVALUATE THE APPLICATIONS AND THEN MAKE A RECOMMENDATION TO YOU FOR THAT PERSON TO REPRESENT CORONADO UNIFIED ON THE CAC FOR THE SOUTH COUNTY SELPA .

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT UPDATE.

ONE POINT OF CLARIFICATION IS IT TWO PEOPLE, ONE PARENT AND ONE STAFF MEMBER OR JUST ONE PERSON ON THE COMMITTEE? I WASN'T CLEAR THERE'S THERE'S ROOM FOR ONE PARENT, WHICH WOULD BE THE PROCESS OF AN APPOINTMENT AND THEN ONE STAFF MEMBER.

AND THEN THERE'S ALSO DIRECTORS MAY SIT ON BUT NOT VOTE.

OKAY. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I APPRECIATE THAT. AND WE'LL LOOK FOR IT NEXT MONTH.

SO SO CLARIFICATION THERE IS THIS AR 1220 GOING TO BE PULLED THEN FROM ACTION NEXT MONTH BECAUSE IT WILL GO TO A FIRST READ.

WHEN WE GET THAT LANGUAGE NEXT MONTH? THAT WOULD BE CORRECT OKAY.

YES. THANK YOU.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? AT THIS POINT, WITH NO OBJECTION, DO A TEN MINUTE COMFORT BREAK.

OKAY. GREAT. TEN MINUTES.

THANK YOU. WE'RE READY.

ITEM EIGHT. ITEMS PULLED FROM THE CONSOLIDATED MOTION FOR CONSENT CALENDAR.

NOTHING WAS PULLED.

SO WE'LL GO INTO ITEM 9.1.

PUBLIC COMMENTS ON NON AGENDIZED ITEMS. ANYONE WHO HAS PUBLIC COMMENTS ON NON AGENDA AND OR CLOSED SESSION ITEMS, YOU ARE INVITED TO COME UP TO THE PODIUM AT THIS TIME.

ALL RIGHT. SEEING NO PUBLIC COMMENTS, WE WILL MOVE ON TO ITEM 9.2.

[9.2 Board Member Comments]

BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS.

TRUSTEE SANDIE, WOULD YOU LIKE TO START? YEAH. THANK YOU. I GET TO GO FIRST.

FIRST I'D LIKE TO THANK, TRUSTEE ANTRIM, IF YOU DIDN'T GET IT, IF EVERYONE DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO READ.

TRUSTEE ANTRIM WROTE A WONDERFUL ARTICLE IN THE EDITORIAL IN THE LOCAL PAPER, REGARDING BEING ELECTED OFFICERS.

EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE AND VERY WELL WRITTEN.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

THERE'S A COAST TO ART EXHIBIT GOING ON AT THE BLACK BOX TONIGHT, SO, I THINK THEY'RE GOING TO DO A, ANOTHER VIEWING TOMORROW.

SO I WAS HOPING TO GET TO THAT ONE 12:30 TO 3:30 TOMORROW.

I DID GET TO ATTEND THE BOYS SOCCER VERSUS CRAWFORD.

I DIDN'T STAY LONG BECAUSE I WAS NOT DRESSED PROPERLY.

IT WAS WHEN SHORTS. AND IT WAS PRETTY, PRETTY BITTERLY COLD.

FOR CORONADO, I DID NOTICE AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE SUPREME COURT TAKING UP A CASE, OF SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS FOR PUBLIC OFFICIALS.

AND THE QUESTION IS, SHOULD THEY BE TREATED AS PERSONAL OR GOVERNMENTAL? SO THE DECISION IS GOING TO BE IN THE, SPRING OR SUMMER OF 2024.

SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS PRETTY INTERESTING.

COAST OF TRIVIA NIGHT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT WITH CASEY TANAKA, HOSTING IT.

NICKY ROTTENS AND THERE WERE 45 PEOPLE ATTENDING, AND 10% OF THE TOTAL OF THE TOTAL SALES, FOOD AND ALCOHOL ARE ALL GOING BACK TO [INAUDIBLE], SO THAT IS FANTASTIC. I DID A MEETING WITH GARY HALL, HE'S, OUR DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES MAINTENANCE AND TRANSPORTATION.

HE GAVE ME A VERY DETAILED TOUR OF THE BASICALLY THE HIGH SCHOOL FACILITIES MOSTLY.

WE TALKED FOR A COUPLE HOURS.

I LOVE THAT STUFF. SO WE TALKED FOREVER.

HE TOLD ME ABOUT PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN COMPLETED, LIKE THE GYM LIGHTING.

HE SHOWED ME THE GYM FLOORS, THE LIGHTING, THE SPEAKERS AT THE STADIUM THAT ARE GOING IN ALL THE NEW SURFACES, POOL, SUPPORT EQUIPMENT, DETAILS SUCH AS THE FILTERS USE SAND AND NOT DIATOMACEOUS EARTH AND I ALSO LEARNED AND A LOT OF THE NEW SECURITY FEATURES THAT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED.

SO I GOT TO SEE THOSE AND THEN, GARY, COMMUTES ALL THE WAY FROM THE SAN BERNARDINO AREA.

SO I THINK WE'RE PRETTY, PRETTY FORTUNATE TO HAVE A, GARY.

AND THE LAST THING I HAD, AT THE LAST BOARD MEETING, I WAS GIVEN A GIFT, AND I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY THOUGHTFUL.

A BOOK, A NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER.

SO MISS SONY, THANK YOU.

VERY KIND.

SO I READ IT OVER THE BREAK, AND, SO IT'S CALLED ALL BOYS AREN'T BLUE.

AND WHAT THE TITLE MEANS IS LIKE GENDER REVEAL THE BLUE FOR BOY, PINK FOR A GIRL.

AND HE FELT LIKE HE WAS A GRAY.

AND IT'S THE STORY OF, GEORGE MATTHEW.

JOHNSON GREW UP IN NEW JERSEY, KIND OF A MIDDLE INCOME HOME.

HIS FATHER WAS A POLICE OFFICER.

[02:15:02]

MOTHER WAS SECRETARY AND BEAUTY SALON OWNER.

AND, LET'S SEE, HE DESCRIBES HIS STRUGGLES FOR INCLUSION, AND FOR EXPRESSING, WHO HE REALLY WAS.

AND IT WAS 25 YEARS OLD BEFORE HE FINALLY WAS ABLE TO ADMIT WHO HE REALLY WAS.

SO IT'S A REALLY INTERESTING BOOK.

I THINK IT'S A GREAT BOOK FOR ANYONE STRUGGLING WITH THESE ISSUES.

SO THANK YOU.

SO, THANK YOU.

I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GREAT AND REFRESHING WINTER BREAK AND, AND EVERYBODY'S BACK READY TO START THE NEXT SEMESTER.

CHS FINALS ARE NEXT WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, SO I'M SURE EVERYBODY IS FEVERISHLY GETTING READY FOR THOSE.

AND I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE COUNSELORS AND THE CHS STAFF WHO ARE, YOU KNOW, PUTTING TOGETHER NEXT YEAR, OUR NEXT SEMESTER'S, CLASS SCHEDULE AND, GETTING EVERYONE THE RIGHT COURSES THAT THEY NEED.

SO AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THE COLLEGE AND CAREER DAY.

THAT'S ON THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 29TH, WHEN EVERYBODY COMES BACK FOR THE SECOND SEMESTER AT CHS.

AND I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO GO TO THE WINTER SPORTS, WHICH ARE, NOW, HEATING UP.

AND, I HAVE YET TO DO MY, SCHOOL SITE VISIT FOR THIS MONTH.

SO I LOOK FORWARD TO VISITING, VILLAGE OR, YEAH, VILLAGE ELEMENTARY.

SO THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

GOOD EVENING. I THINK I'VE DONE ENOUGH TALKING FOR TONIGHT.

THANK YOU FOR HEARING ME OUT ON SOME THINGS I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT.

THAT SAID, I DID WANT TO PLUG THE CYBER COMMITTEE.

WE HAVE A MEETING COMING UP SOON, AND IF WE HAVE ANYONE INTERESTED IN JOINING, I MISSED THE LAST MEETING.

I WAS TRAVELING, BUT I DO, ANTICIPATE WE'LL BE LOOKING AT SOME INTERESTING THINGS AND HOPEFULLY MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH.

OKAY, THERE WE GO.

THANK YOU. I DIDN'T KNOW THIS UNTIL RECENTLY, BUT JANUARY IS SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH, SO I WOULD LIKE.

I'D LIKE. OH.

THERE WE GO.

I'D LIKE TO RECOGNIZE AND THANK MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS FOR GIVING THEIR TIME, AND THEIR TALENT TO SUPPORT STUDENT SUCCESS IN OUR DISTRICT.

IT REALLY IS A PLEASURE WORKING WITH ALL OF YOU AND MR. RIEBE. NEXT WEEK IS THE GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE THAT MR. RIEBE TALKED ABOUT. I KNOW THERE'S GOING TO BE ACTIVITIES AT OUR SCHOOL SITES.

BUT I'D LIKE TO ENCOURAGE OUR PARENT PARTNERS AND OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO MODEL AND HIGHLIGHT KIND BEHAVIOR AND KIND WORDS FOR OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE WATCHING US, AND TO TAKE THE TIME TO ACKNOWLEDGE WHEN YOU SEE STUDENTSOR KIDS EXHIBITING KINDNESS AND ALL DIFFERENT ASPECTS.

I ATTENDED THE CORONADO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA PERFORMANCE DECEMBER 16TH, AND IT WAS IMPRESSIVE TO SEE THE TALENT AND POISE PRESENTED BY SOME OF THE SINGERS AND DANCERS WHO PERFORMED.

A HIGHLIGHT IN DECEMBER FOR ME WAS ATTENDING THE FRESHMAN PE DANCE CLASS PERFORMANCE OF A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS TREE.

IT WAS REALLY GREAT.

I'VE NEVER SEEN SO MANY FIRST AND SECOND GRADERS SIT STILL FOR SO LONG.

IT WAS FABULOUS.

WE HAVE BEEN DOING A LOT OF WORK WITH PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE AND HAVING OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY INPUT.

THERE'S GOING TO BE ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY WHERE A COMMUNITY MEMBER DOESN'T HAVE TO COMMIT, WHAT, 16 HOURS IN A WEEKEND OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO PARTICIPATE.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY THE 31ST, FROM 5 TO 7 P.M.

IN THE WIND ROOM WILL BE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PARENTS COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO STOP, DROP IN, PROVIDE FEEDBACK, SEE WHAT THE CONVERSATIONS HAVE BEEN GOING ON AND ADD THEIR VOICE TO THIS PROCESS.

I'M REALLY EXCITED TO CHAPERON THE HIGH SCHOOL WINTER FORMAL TOMORROW.

YEAH, I FIGURED IT'S BEEN ALMOST 40 YEARS SINCE I ATTENDED A HIGH SCHOOL DANCE, SO I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

AND THEN I HAVE OFFICE HOURS THIS MONDAY FROM 3:30 TO 5:30 HERE IN THE DISTRICT OFFICE TO STOP BY AND TALK ABOUT ANY ITEMS THAT MAY BE INTERESTING TO YOU.

NOW I'M JUST WONDERING WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO WEAR TO THE WINTER FORMAL.

TRUSTEE CAVANAUGH. WITH THAT WINTER THEME.

A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS.

YES, YES. I ALSO ATTENDED THE VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS TREE.

[02:20:05]

IT WAS SO GOOD. I WENT TWICE, ACTUALLY.

I SAW IT DURING THE DAY.

AND THEN I TOOK MY DAUGHTER AND SON BACK THAT NIGHT, AND IT WAS IMPRESSIVE.

IT'S THE PE DANCE CLASS FOR FRESHMEN.

AND SO IT COUNTS AS A PE CLASS.

AND I THINK I'VE CONVINCED MY EIGHTH GRADER TO JOIN IT, NEXT YEAR AS HIS PE CREDIT.

AND I THOUGHT THEY DID AN AMAZING JOB.

AND THERE WAS ONE DAD THAT WAS IN IT, PLAYING THE DAD FOR THE MAIN TREE OR THE OWNER OF THE MAIN TREE.

AND THAT WAS REALLY CUTE TO SEE HIM, LIKE, LIFTHER AND AND BE ON STAGE WITH HER.

SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS A REALLY NEAT EXPERIENCE FOR THAT ONE.

I ATTENDED THE LAST PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE, WEEKEND, AND THAT WAS SUCH AN AMAZING CONNECTION OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS, TEACHERS, STAFF, PARENTS, THERE AND THE CONVERSATIONS.

AND SO I ENCOURAGE YOU AS WELL TO ATTEND THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY FOR THAT.

IT'S REALLY HELPFUL TO OUR DISTRICT AND OUR COMMUNITY AND, MOVING FORWARD.

I ATTENDED THE CHS BAND HOLIDAY CONCERT, SO I GOT TO SEE TO SEE, HIGH SCHOOL PERFORM.

I ATTENDED THE CHS BOYS BASKETBALL GAME WITH SUPERINTENDENT MUELLER.

IT WAS THEIR HUSTLE WAS AMAZING.

JUST CONSTANTLY.

THERE WERE SO MANY STEALS OF THE BALL FROM THE OTHER TEAM AND JUST NEVER GAVE UP, EVEN THOUGH THEY UNFORTUNATELY DIDN'T WIN.

BUT THEY THEIR HUSTLE WAS THERE TILL THE LAST SECOND OF THE GAME.

I ATTENDED THE KOSA TRIVIA NIGHT ACTUALLY LAST NIGHT.

THIRD PLACE. JUST SAYING.

WE WERE IN FIRST, WITH THE FRENCH REVOLUTION.

NOT ME, BUT THEN ONCE WE HIT THE BROADWAY MUSICALS, IT WAS ALL DOWNHILL FROM THERE, SO COULD ONLY DO SO MUCH.

BUT, IT WAS A GREAT NIGHT FOR KOSA PARENTS.

AND SO THANK YOU TO KOSA FOUNDATION FOR PUTTING THAT ON.

I HOPE THEY RAISED A LOT OF MONEY FOR THE PROGRAMS. LAST MONTH I WAS ABLE TO GO TO CHILD NUTRITION SERVICES AND I SWEAR THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL TALK ABOUT THE ROBOT.

BUT I GOT TO SEE THE ROBOT.

IT WAS IMPRESSIVE.

I WENT WITH OUR, HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS CLASS.

THEY WENT AND TOOK A TOUR BECAUSE THEY WERE ACTUALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR ROBOTICS UNIT, SO IT REALLY ALL CAME TOGETHER.

AND, PLATTER, I GUESS, OF FRIED RICE CAN BE MADE IN 3.5 MINUTES.

AND I THINK THEY SAID 4 TO 5 OF THOSE TRAYS, FEEDS IS ENOUGH FOR THE WHOLE VILLAGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

SO THAT'S AMAZING TIME.

SAVE ON THAT. SO ROBOTIC THUMBS UP.

I WILL BE GOING TO SILVER STRAND THIS MONTH IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.

SO THAT'LL BE MY JANUARY, SITE VISIT.

AND, I WOULD LIKE TO OFFER OUT.

SO I'VE BEEN VERY INTERESTED IN GOING INTO CLASSROOMS AND READING TO STUDENTS.

SO IF ANY TEACHERS IN OUR DISTRICT WOULD LIKE, ME TO COME IN AND READ, ESPECIALLY ON A RAINY DAY, RECESS TIME, I WOULD LOVE TO COME IN AND READ TO ANY STUDENTS.

SO I'VE SPOKEN WITH ONE TEACHER, AND SO I JUST WANT TO OFFER THAT OUT TO, ANY CLASSROOM IN OUR DISTRICT.

I'M HAPPY TO COME IN AND READ A STORY.

AND LASTLY, GOOD LUCK TO OUR HIGH SCHOOLERS ON THEIR END OF TERM AND THEIR FINALS.

AND YOUR TRANSITION TO YOUR NEW SEMESTER.

WISH YOU GUYS THE BEST AND HAVE A GOOD TIME THIS WEEKEND.

AND THAT'S IT FOR ME.

SUPERINTENDENT. THANK YOU ALL TRUSTEES, FOR YOUR UPDATES.

[9.3 Superintendent's Comments]

I'LL ATTEMPT TO KEEP MINE BRIEF.

ATTENDED MANY OF THE EVENTS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN DISCUSSED.

HAVE HAD OPPORTUNITIES IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS TO WATCH, BASKETBALL AND WATER POLO.

SAW OUR WOMEN DEFEAT CATHEDRAL CATHOLIC ON TUESDAY NIGHT, I BELIEVE.

OR MAYBE. YES, ONE LONG NIGHT.

I'D LIKE TO ALSO SHARE, I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AS A JUDGE.

MR. JOSH CHOW.

HE'S ONE OF OUR ENGLISH TEACHERS AT CORONADO HIGH SCHOOL.

HE'S ALSO THE CLUB ADVISOR FOR THE CREATIVE WRITING CLUB.

AND, HE STARTED A SHORT STORY COMPETITION.

I GOT TO SERVE AS A JUDGE AND WAS JUST BLOWN AWAY AT THE CREATIVITY AND THE ADHERENCE TO THE PROMPT AND THE WRITING CRAFT AND STYLE THAT WERE ON DISPLAY. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT FOR OUR PANEL TO DETERMINE A WINNER.

WANT TO THANK OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT SERVE ON THE SUPERINTENDENT STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL? INCREDIBLY INSIGHTFUL, FUN AND FUNNY.

I QUICKLY THAT'S BECOMING MY FAVORITE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON OF THE MONTH.

I ALSO WANTED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS EVENING, ONE OF OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, SAFE HARBOR, IS HOSTING THE MOVIE UPSTANDERS AT THE CHS THEATER, AND THAT'S ACTUALLY WHY PRINCIPAL MOLINA HAD TO STEP OUT.

SHE IS SERVING ON A PANEL WITH CLINICAL COUNSELOR AND SOME OTHER COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVES TO DEBRIEF AND DISCUSS AND RESPOND TO

[02:25:08]

QUESTIONS REGARDING THE MOVIE.

UPSTANDERS. I WANTED TO PAINT A LITTLE BIT OF A PICTURE AND THEN END, THIS EVENING IN A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT REPORTS AND MULTIPLE REPORTS.

[INAUDIBLE] EQUITY AUDIT WAS REFERENCED.

OUR SCHOOL SAFETY OPERATIONS AUDIT AND REPORT WAS REFERENCED, AND THE PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE WAS REFERENCED.

I'M USING THOSE THREE EXAMPLES BECAUSE THOSE ARE INITIATIVES THAT THE GOVERNING BOARD APPROVED LAST YEAR THAT WE'RE IMPLEMENTING THIS YEAR.

I REALLY APPRECIATED ONE OF DOCTOR BATTLE SLIDES SHOWED THE THROUGH LINE OF THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING THAT IT'S INTENTIONAL, THAT IT'S STRATEGIC, AND THAT WE'RE WE'RE USING THOSE DATA POINTS AND THOSE REPORTS TO MOVE OUR DISTRICT FORWARD IN INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT INITIATIVES.

BUT IT COMES WITH TIME AND RESOURCES.

WITH THAT IN MIND, AND TRUSTEE CAVANAUGH CAN'T GET MUCH BY YOU.

OUR STAFF WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THE CALIFORNIA SCHOOL BOARD'S RECOGNITION MONTH IN THE MONTH OF JANUARY.

WE HAVE TEN ELECTED OFFICIALS IN CORONADO.

FIVE OF THEM ARE SITTING HERE TO MY RIGHT.

RIGHT NOW WE'RE ENTERING INTO AN ELECTION SEASON.

I'VE HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING WITH EIGHT YEARS OF TRUSTEES AND HAVE GOTTEN TO KNOW EIGHT YEARS WORTH OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND UNDERSTAND THE SCRUTINY, THE PRESSURE, THE VOICES THAT COME IN FROM CONSTITUENTS, WITH REQUESTS, WITH DEMANDS, WITH SUGGESTIONS, WITH FEEDBACK.

THE WAY YOU ALL NAVIGATE THAT IS IMPRESSIVE.

AND IT'S WORTHY OF RECOGNITION.

AS WE ENTER INTO AN ELECTION SEASON, I REALLY HOPE THAT PEOPLE RECOGNIZE THIS ISN'T SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE BEING PAID ENOUGH TO RETIRE ON.

AND THAT THIS REALLY IS A LABOR OF LOVE.

IT'S A COMMITMENT TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM THAT WE HAVE HERE IN THE CITY OF CORONADO.

SO AS A STAFF, WE WANTED TO RECOGNIZE AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS.

AND ALONG THE THEME OF WINTER.

STAFF WENT AHEAD AND, PURCHASED SOME ISLANDER GEAR FOR ALL OF THE EVENTS THAT YOU'RE AT AND MAYBE EVEN A DANCE CHAPERON. SO I'LL PASS THESE OUT AS WE TRANSITION INTO CLOSED SESSION, AND I HOPE I GOT SIZES CORRECT.

BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THAT YOU DO.

I'M ACTUALLY PRETTY SURE KAMI KNOWS OUR SIZES.

KAMI KNOWS EVERYTHING.

ALL RIGHT, MOVING ON TO ITEM 10.1, PROPOSED LIST OF AGENDA ITEMS FOR FUTURE BOARD MEETINGS.

[10.1 Proposed List of Agenda Items for Future Board Meetings]

DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC COMMENT AT THIS TIME? TRUSTEES. YES.

DR. YOUNGBLOOD JUST POINTS AT ME IMMEDIATELY.

I CAME ACROSS I'M SURE SOME OF YOU ALL NOTICED AS WELL.

NEW STATE LAW ALLOWS STUDENT TRUSTEES TO BE COMPENSATED FOR THEIR TIME.

I WOULD LIKE TO ASK, MR. RIEBE IF HE WOULD SUPPORT SUCH A NOTION IN CORONADO UNIFIED.

I WOULD OF COURSE, SUPPORT THAT, THAT NOTION.

BUT I LOVE BEING HERE, AND, I DON'T NEED TO BE COMPENSATED.

IT'S A FUN PART OF THE ASB, PRESIDENT ROLE.

COMING TO THESE MEETINGS, I GET TO SEE MY SCHOOL DISTRICT FROM A DIFFERENT VIEW, A DIFFERENT ANGLE.

SO I AM SUPER HAPPY TO BE HERE.

AND THERE'S NO NEED TO BE COMPENSATED.

I APPRECIATE THAT.

[INAUDIBLE] THAT'S RIGHT. THAT SAID, I'D ASK IF I HAVE FELLOW BOARD SUPPORT TO ASK STAFF TO BRING FORWARD A REPORT ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT OUR DISTRICT WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR SUCH FUNDING FOR FUTURE STUDENT TRUSTEES, AND HOW THAT ROLE MIGHT WORK WITH THE ASB PRESIDENCY, IF IT WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL ROLE OR THE SAME PERSON, AND SEE IF THAT'S SOMETHING.

BECAUSE THE UNREASON UNDERLYING THE BILL WAS THAT A LOT OF STUDENTS IN CALIFORNIA CAN'T HOLD PART TIME JOBS AND SERVE AS STUDENT TRUSTEES. AND SO THE IDEA WAS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY COULD SERVE AND NOT BE PRECLUDED FROM SUPPORTING THEMSELVES OR THEIR FAMILIES.

SO THAT IS MY SUGGESTION OR REQUEST FOR A FUTURE REPORT OR INFORMATION.

YES. [INAUDIBLE].

CLARIFYING QUESTION FOR WYATT.

WHEN DO HISTORICALLY WHEN DO OUR STUDENTS START TO LOOK AT LEADERSHIP POSITIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING SCHOOL YEAR?

[02:30:09]

SO SPECIFIC ASB LEADERSHIP.

YEAH. SO SECOND SEMESTER IS WHEN, THEY'RE START, YOU START TO DO THE TALK.

OH. WHAT ARE YOU RUNNING FOR? AND THEN FROM THERE, WE START OUR ELECTION AND OUR CAMPAIGNS, CLOSE TO THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

AND YOU CAMPAIGN FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS FOR THE XCOM, WHICH IS, I'M, I'M THE LEADER OF XCOM, THE ASB PRESIDENT.

AND THEN WE HAVE A VICE PRESIDENT, AND I BELIEVE IT'S 8 OR 9.

NO, IT'S, 7 OR 8 COMMISSIONERS THAT EACH HOLD THEIR OWN, ROLE WITHIN OUR ASB.

AND THEY EACH PERSON RUNNING FOR THAT, THEY CAMPAIGN FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS.

AND THEN WE GET UP, GET IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL AND WE GIVE A SPEECH, AS TO WHY WE WOULD BE A GOOD PERSON FOR THE ROLE.

SO I DID THAT, ABOUT TWO MONTHS BEFORE WE, FINISHED UP OUR YEAR LAST YEAR.

OKAY. SO JUST WORKING BACKWARDS FROM THAT TIMELINE, BECAUSE THIS CONVERSATION MAY LEAD TO OR IMPACT OR INFLUENCE THAT PROCESS AND TIMELINE.

STAFF WILL SHOOT FOR MARCH, THE MARCH BOARD MEETING.

THERE WAS ALSO SOME LANGUAGE IN REGARDS TO HOW A STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE IS ELECTED.

IS THAT ALSO SOMETHING YOU THINK WE SHOULD LOOK AT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE COMPLYING WITH THAT? INCLUDE EVERYTHING OKAY.

PERFECT. THAT'S WHAT I DID INTEND TO INCLUDE THAT IN ASKING HOW THE RULES WOULD NEED TO BE.

MAKE SURE THEY'RE STRUCTURED OKAY, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF THE DEFINITION OF STUDENT AND TRUSTEE UNDER THE STATE LAW IS THE SAME AS IT WOULD BE FOR ASB, RIGHT? AND SO I WOULD WANT TO MAKE SURE WE COMPLY.

AND MAYBE THERE'S ROOM FOR MORE LEADERSHIP POSITIONS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.

MAYBE THERE'S A SEAT AT THE DAIS FOR THE ASB PRESIDENT, AS WELL AS A STUDENT TRUSTEE THAT MIGHT HAVE A DIFFERENT SET OF ROLES.

RIGHT? OKAY, GREAT.

IT'LL BE INCLUDED. THANK YOU.

I WOULD, LIKE TO ASK THE BOARD TO CONSIDER, SCHEDULING FAIRLY SOON, AN OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AT AND REVIEW THE INTER DISTRICT TRANSFER POLICY, THE CONTRACTS, LOOKING AT THAT, IT IF ENROLLMENT IS DECLINING AND WE NEED TO LOOK AT BRINGING MORE STUDENTS INTO THE DISTRICT, I THINK, IT WOULD BEHOOVE US TO, TO REALLY LOOK AT WHAT OUR POLICY IS AND, HOW WE'RE ADHERING TO IT.

OKAY. STAFF WILL HAVE THAT REPORT.

WE WILL TARGET AGAIN.

BECAUSE IT'S TIME SENSITIVE.

WE SEND OUR, PEOPLE START SUBMITTING THEIR APPLICATIONS FOR ENROLLMENT IN OUR DISTRICT EARLY IN THE SPRING.

SO IF WE WERE TO PRESENT, WE WOULD WANT TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE INCLUDING ALL OF THE INFORMATION, NOT JUST THE APPLICATION PROCESS, THE CONTRACT THAT IS SIGNED BETWEEN THE TWO DISTRICTS, THE CONTRACT THAT OUR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS SIGN.

BUT ALSO HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE ON PERCENTAGE OF CUSD ENROLLMENT BY GRADE LEVEL THAT OUR IDT'S.

DOES THAT SOUND COMPREHENSIVE ENOUGH? OKAY, SO WE'LL PENCIL IN MARCH.

OKAY. SO, MADAM PRESIDENT, I PREVIOUSLY REQUESTED A BOARD REPORT AT SOME POINT IN THE FUTURE.

I BELIEVE IT WAS AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER WHEN I ASKED FOR A STAFF REPORT FOR THE STUDENT ACADEMIC CALENDAR TO BE PRESENTED.

AND I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THAT'S ACTUALLY PRESENTED IN FEBRUARY AT OUR NEXT MEETING AND ESSENTIALLY TO LOOK AT, HOW WE SELECT THE STUDENT ACADEMIC CALENDAR OR SETTLE UPON IT, HOW, OUR CHOICES IN THE CALENDAR AFFECT, STUDENT AND STAFF ABSENCES, ARE A AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE TRENDS, ETC..

AND THEN ALSO MAYBE IF THE STAFF COULD ALSO INCLUDE, ALIGNING WITH NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS, BECAUSE, OF COURSE, SO MANY OF OUR STAFF HAVE CHILDREN IN NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS SO THAT WE COULD, TRY TO MINIMIZE ABSENCES, ETC..

SUPERINTENDENT. YES.

THANK YOU, TRUSTEE YOUNGBLOOD FOR BRINGING THIS BACK UP.

STAFF HAS BEEN LOOKING AT THIS, AS I'VE MENTIONED IN PREVIOUS BOARD MEETINGS, THERE ARE LITTLE SENSITIVITIES ABOUT NEGOTIATIONS.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT'S NEGOTIATED.

HOWEVER, WE WILL PRESENT, IN FEBRUARY, PER YOUR DIRECTION, A CALENDAR REPORT.

[02:35:03]

I DO KNOW THAT THE FIVE OF YOU HAVE RECEIVED, CORRESPONDENCE FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THIS.

I WILL SHARE THAT THE STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL, THIS WAS A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION INITIATED BY STUDENTS.

SO WE WILL TARGET FEBRUARY FOR THAT REPORT.

THANK YOU.

OKAY. WE'RE ALSO GOING TO HAVE FOUR ADDITIONAL MANDATED STATE REPORTS THAT DR.

BATTLE WILL PRESENT. CAN WE PUT THOSE IN THE MARCH MEETING? THOSE HAVE BEEN NOTED AND WILL BE PRESENTED IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH, RESPECTIVELY.

ALL RIGHT. ITEM 10.2 LISTS OUR UPCOMING MEETINGS.

[10.2 Upcoming Meetings]

AND WE ARE READY FOR CLOSED SESSION.

[11. CLOSED SESSION]
