I WANT TO RECOGNIZE ALSO THE TONIGHT IS HISPANIC, THE BEGINNING OF RECOGNITION MEETING FOR HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH, AND THE HISTORY AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF OUR HISPANIC COMMUNITY, OUR EDUCATORS, AND OUR STUDENTS, AND OUR CLASSROOMS, PARENTS, AND EVERYBODY, AND I KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE MORE ON THAT, I BELIEVE LATER. TONIGHT IS OUR NIGHT WHERE WE TALK ABOUT OUR AMAZING EDUCATORS AND NATOMAS, AND EVERY YEAR I STAND UP HERE AND I SAY BASICALLY THE SAME THING, AND I'M GOING TO SAY IT AGAIN. WE CELEBRATE THESE TEACHERS AT THE SITES THAT ARE OUR TEACHERS OF THE YEAR AND IT'S SO INCREDIBLY HUMBLING AND SUCH AN INCREDIBLE HONOR TO GET TO REPRESENT THEM, TO SPEAK FOR THEM, TO BE THEIR VOICE. TO ALL OF YOU GUYS IN THE ROOM, I LOVE YOU. THE ONES IN THE HALLWAY, YOU GUYS ARE OUT THERE, TOO. I KNOW THAT YOU'RE THERE. I LOVE THIS PROCESS. I LOVE BEING HERE AND DOING THIS. THIS YEAR, I'VE BEEN SPENDING A LOT MORE TIME AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR FOCUSED ON OBSERVING CLASSROOMS AND SCHOOLS AND BEING OUT TALKING TO TEACHERS, SO THAT I HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IT TAKES AT EVERY SINGLE GRADE LEVEL AND WHAT THINGS WE'RE SEEING IN THE CLASSROOMS. WITH ALL OF THESE CHALLENGES THAT WE FACE IN THE JOB OF BEING TEACHERS, WHAT WE DO IS FUNDAMENTALLY, I THINK ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT JOBS ON THE PLANET, IF NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB AND DOCTORS, THERE'S MEDICINE, TOO. [LAUGHTER] THERE'S EDUCATION AND STAYING ALIVE AND YOU KNOW FARMERS WHO MAKE OUR FOOD. IT'S A REALLY HARD ONE FOR ME SOMETIMES, BUT [LAUGHTER] I AM SO PROUD TO BE PART OF THIS PROFESSION AND TO WORK WITH THE PEOPLE THAT I WORK WITH. EVERYTHING THAT I KNOW TONIGHT IS THAT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING RECOGNIZED ARE DRIVEN BY SO MUCH MORE THAN WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE SEE, AND WE HAVE TO DO THAT SOMETIMES IN SITUATIONS WHERE WE DON'T HAVE ALL THE RESOURCES WE NEED. I'VE SEEN SOME HIGHS IN OUR CLASSROOMS THIS YEAR AND SOME TRULY SERIOUS CHALLENGES, AND THERE'S ABSOLUTELY LEARNING TAKING PLACE. I'VE BEEN IN CLASSROOMS RIGHT NOW WHERE VETERAN AND TEACHERS AND JUST STARTING OUT OUR DISTRICTS ARE STILL SEEKING ACCESS TO CURRICULUM, FACING STAFFING CHALLENGES, SPLITTING CLASSES. THESE ARE ALL THINGS THAT I THINK WE ALWAYS TALK ABOUT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. WHAT I REALLY WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE TONIGHT THOUGH IS THAT, THIS YEAR, WE'RE REALLY WORKING TOGETHER IN A WAY THAT I THINK IS REALLY MUCH MORE AUTHENTIC BETWEEN TEACHERS AND THE DISTRICT OFFICE. I JUST WANT TO TAKE A MINUTE TO SHOUT OUT, SOME OF OUR LEADERS IN THE DISTRICT OFFICE TO DAVID AND BRANDON AND THEIR RESPECTIVE TEAMS FOR HAVING REALLY HONEST AND THOUGHTFUL CONVERSATIONS AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR AND ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS AND SITTING DOWN AND TALKING ABOUT SOLUTIONS, EVEN IF WE CAN'T COME UP WITH THEM RIGHT AWAY. CONVERSATIONS WITH DAN, TALKING TO RICK. IT'S BEEN REALLY OBVIOUS THAT THERE'S BEEN SOME SHIFTS IN THE SYSTEMS THAT ARE IN THIS OFFICE AND THAT THEY'RE WORKING, AND I THINK THAT THAT'S IMPORTANT FOR YOU GUYS ALL TO KNOW THAT THE LEADERSHIP CHANGE IS REALLY BEING FELT AND IT'S BEING FELT AS WE'RE WORKING DOWN AND THROUGH THESE PROBLEMS. EVEN IF WE CAN'T FIND SOLUTIONS RIGHT AWAY, THE FACT THAT WE HAVE ADMINISTRATORS WHO ARE ACKNOWLEDGING THOSE ISSUES AND VALIDATING THE CONCERNS OF THE TEACHERS IS SOMETHING THAT FOR US, [00:10:01] MAKES US FEEL HEARD AND RESPECTED. I KNOW THAT AT TIMES, WE DON'T NECESSARILY AGREE, BUT AT LEAST WE'RE HAVING CONVERSATIONS. IN ALL OF THIS COLLABORATION, I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT ONCE AGAIN THAT THE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS, THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PARTNERSHIP GRANT IS AVAILABLE FOR THIS LAST YEAR. THIS IS THE LAST YEAR. THERE'S ONLY ABOUT 10% OF THE INITIAL BALANCE REMAINING IN THOSE STATE GRANT FUNDS. LAST YEAR, WE WERE ABLE TO GET $3.5 MILLION TO SUPPORT OUR TWO SITES THAT WE'RE WORKING THROUGH THE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PROCESS WITH AND WE HAVE A NEW COORDINATOR COMING IN. I JUST WANT TO REITERATE THAT FOR US IN NTA, AS WE LOOK AT THE MODEL OF COMMUNITY SCHOOLS, IT IS THE TRANSFORMATIONAL MODEL THAT WE NEED IN EDUCATION. THE CONVERSATIONS THAT WE HAVE, THE CHALLENGES THAT WE FACE. WE ARE NOT GOING TO FIX THOSE THINGS UNTIL WE COME TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY TO ADDRESS THEM. I'M JUST REALLY ADVOCATING FOR THE NATOMAS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT TO APPLY THIS ONE LAST YEAR FOR SOME OF THE SITES THAT WERE LEFT OUT LAST YEAR. I KNOW THAT PEOPLE DON'T ALWAYS LOVE THE TERM DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION BECAUSE NOW THEY LOOK AT THAT AS ONE OF THOSE PHRASES THAT WE USE ALL THE TIME AND DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING, BECAUSE WE JUST KEEP SAYING IT. BUT THE REALITY TO ME IS THAT THOSE ARE ALL REALLY BEAUTIFUL WORDS AND THEY'RE ASPIRATIONAL. TAKING ME A WHILE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT INCLUSION LOOKS LIKE, BUT THE MORE OF THE TIME I SPEND WITH COMMUNITY SCHOOLS LEADERS IN COMMUNITY SCHOOLS ACROSS THE STATE, THE MORE I'M TELLING YOU THIS IS WHAT INCLUSION IS. WITH THAT, THAT'S THE END OF MY COMMENTS TONIGHT. OVER AT ENDERCOMBE HIGH SCHOOL, THIS MORNING, THERE WAS A MEMORIAL SIR CLIME PERFORMED BY THE CTE PUBLIC SAFETY STUDENTS IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE LIVES LOST ON 9,11 TODAY. COLLEGE PRESENTATIONS ARE IN FULL SWING WITH AN HBCU FAIR FIELD TRIP THIS WEEK FOR IHS STUDENTS. AT LEROY GREENE ACADEMY, COLLEGE FIELD TRIPS HAVE BEGUN, STARTING OFF STRONG WITH STUDENTS HEADED TO TORI CSU CHICO. MEANWHILE, NATOMAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE CONTINUED TO BRING THE SPIRIT BY HOLDING A CLUB RUSH, WHICH SAW MUCH MORE PARTICIPATION THAN IN PAST YEARS. THE NIGHTHAWKS VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM ALSO TOOK HOME A MASSIVE WIN THIS PAST FRIDAY AGAINST GAULT HIGH SCHOOL WITH THE FINAL SCORE BEING 28 14. FINALLY, AT THE NATOMAS MIDDLE CAMPUS, A CLUB RUSH WAS ALSO LAUNCHED WITH E-GAMING AND WEIGHTLIFTING ADDED TO THEIR CLUB LIST. THEY HAVE ALSO OPENED UP A SCHOOL-WIDE ELECTION WITH STUDENTS CAMPAIGNING FOR DIFFERENT GOVERNING POSITIONS ON THEIR COUNCIL. ASKED HOW THEY COULD HELP ME AND FIND WHERE I WAS GOING FOR MY STUDENT. THEN I EXPLAINED TO THEM WHO I WAS, AND THEY WERE LIKE, OH, BUT THEY WERE JUST VERY HELPFUL, AND I LOVED SEEING THAT. I ALSO WAS ABLE TO ATTEND A NATOMAS HIGH FOOTBALL GAME AND A GIRLS VOLLEYBALL GAME THERE. ON SATURDAY, I WAS IN THE FRESNO CLOVIS AREA. WAS INTERCOM GIRLS TENNIS. SATURDAY MORNING, I WENT OVER AND GOT TO WATCH THEM COMPETE IN THEIR LAST TWO MATCHES, AND THEY ENDED UP BEING THE CHAMPIONS FOR THEIR DIVISION. SO WE SPENT A VERY HOT MORNING TOGETHER AND THE GIRLS WERE VICTORIA'S. I THINK IT WAS 105 THAT DAY. I ALSO ATTENDED THE 911 STAIR CLIMB THIS MORNING AT INTERCOM, V MOVING. FUNDS 25 THROUGH 63, YOU ALSO SEE THE ENDING FUND BALANCES THERE AT JUNE 30TH. THIS IS A CONDENSED THREE YEAR MULTI YEAR PROJECTION ABBREVIATED. YOU CAN SEE THE '23/'24 UNAUDITED ACTUALS.
